Getting Un-stuck in my Career as a Composer
Показать описание
Back in early 2023 I was feeling stuck. I *didn't* get a lot of gigs & opportunities that I was applying for, interviewing for, and working towards. So I was just burned out and needed something to infuse some energy into my career. This is where I was in life when I decided to take part in the Joy Music House Music Production Workshop.
Since the workshop I've been on an exciting journey in my career feeling reinvigorated and new opportunities in new directions. I'm super thankful to Catherine, Robin and the team for the encouragement and support even after the workshop.
*Joy Music House Score Production Workshop*
I did a video last year showing the behind the scenes of the recording sessions for "A Light Divided" at Silent Zoo Studios with the amazing team of the Joy Music House Workshop.
*Watch the Behind the Scenes Here*
Silent Zoo Studios, the home of some of my favorite scores, was a terrific space to record this piece with some of LA’s most talented musicians. The piece was recorded over two days with 25 minutes for strings and 25 minutes for winds and brass. Recording is always a wild ride, a collaborative process between the booth and the musicians, facing all the technical difficulties and time constraints together.
Videographer Don Downie recorded two days of recording sessions showing the hard work process of recording music. I also took video while on the trip and added it in. I composed with a piano and a notepad, then input directly into Dorico. During the composing process, I take walks with my dog and in this video I included a voice memo with the music idea for this piece.

🎺🎻 The talented musicians who put in the long hours bringing so much music to life.
🎧 The JMH team for their guidance, support, technical prowess, oh and also their love of good food.

🙏 Last and not least, Catherine Joy for her wisdom, patience, and support of each of us.
