Russia and Ukraine carried out an unexpected prisoner swap on Wednesday, the largest since the war began and involving almost 300 people, including 10 foreigners and the Azov commanders who led a prolonged Ukrainian defence of Mariupol earlier this year.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that pro-Kremlin Ukrainian politician Viktor Medvedchuk, who is President Vladimir Putin's closest and most influential ally in Ukraine, had been freed as part of a deal that released 200 Ukrainian soldiers.

In addition, Russia’s defence ministry said on Thursday that 55 of its servicemen had been returned to Russia.

Considering how Putin’s other “allies” are getting thrown down stairs and out of windows, I might choose to take my chances as a Ukrainian POW.

What is the point of this "special military operation" if you set your main targets (the Azov) free?

Why didn't they trade for Brittney Grinder? Doesn't Ukraine have a woman's basketball team?

If they can negotiate this then they can negotiate a peace. Sadly NATO won't let them as we learned when Boris Johnson had an emergency trip to Ukraine to keep them fighting instead.
