I had no idea about this with oils. I just bought a set US art supply. Thank you for this. I'm used to painting with acrylics

As a longgg time traditonal oil painter, ive switched to water based winsor newton and have been very pleased so far. I live in a small apartment in brooklyn and its finally allowed me to get back into oil painting again. Highly recommend!

That’s why i use less oderless paints and I’m completely also using safflower oils and walnut oils for my paints . Other paints like golden paints and some oil paint that other people use cause bad cancer and it will kill you. Some paint brands do not really tell you if it’s ok to use in the discriptions in stores and Amazon online but sennelier paints tell you and it’s a lot a lot safer. It says ap it says safflower oil and no warnings .

As someone who uses turps a lot for painting don’t spill it on yourself… split it on my trousers during an art exam… did my best wash it out but still ended up with a massive turps burn.

It’s fine if you get it on your skin for a short while, just wash it off. (I had those trousers on for like 5 hours). I was fine, the skin was just irritated and after a week I peeled off a massive sheet of dead skin. Basically gave myself a diy chemical peel 😅.

Saying that oil paint is just oil and pigment is true, but also will instill people with a false sense it safety. Cobalt, cadmium, and lead are definitely dangerous.

Can you wash rags or can you use paper towels and dispose of them? I’m trying to make my own paint and want to learn how to use and create them as safely as possible

Ok I had no clue oil paints were a fire hazard. Could I just use plain water or rubbing alcohol to get rid of excess oil on my brushes? I’m a little nervous about using a rag to get the paint off

When you say "washing with oil medium instead of solvent" would baby oil work or olive oil?

Have you ever tried Eco-House for solvent? Right now I use Gamblin, but with being pregnant & have littles in the house I wonder if it matters to switch.

I got rid of solvents for the most part

It's really been difficult for me trying to find out how to use oil paint since the paint out of the tubes ruin my paint brushes and the oil paint itself is really dry, does anyone know how to fix that?

What exactly is the use/purpose of Turpentine? And what are other alternatives to Turpentine?

We are now erasing all traces of the art oil and are using it for new purposes
