When that bull crap synthetic stock was installed, the SKS probably cost $159 out the door. At least that's what my cosmoline soaked Yugo cost in 2001. When the supply was plentiful, they were looked at as junk guns. These were what everyone modded out before ARs became the standard.

the SKS is best in it's pure and natural form

I have one just like it and love it🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️. One of the best rifles I’ve ever had

Bought mine pre-ban (before '94). Norinco Chinese Type 56 for $250 and swapped out wood for black polymer & folding stock just the same as this one, except for the fancy rear sight & bayonet.

Back in the day those were $50 bucks a pop and the stocks were also $50. People could make a decent rifle out of them with some mods without having to pay $400 for a rifle that was made like that.

Man I have 3 different stocks for my sks . Never put a crazy red dot set up like that on my. But have you shot an sks with a folding stock. It's fun. Sks's are everywhere. Do whatever you want to your guns. Just keep them

All the parts come off and the original parts can be put back on.
No permanent modifications have been done here
So that means it's not bubba'd
It's fine

Mines in a tapco stock, but I keep the wood stock and original mag at home. I don’t see the issue as long as you don’t go milking the receiver and shit.

A higher red dot is very cool because it means that you don’t need to tuck your head down to look through your sights. You can stand, look forward and shoot.
Pretty cool !

Just got the same ATI Folding Stock with my 1977 #'s Matching Norinco, with Bakelite Handguard but the original wood furniture too.

I bought an SKS for $90 in 1997. The stock shown here was probably $40. These Tapco "upgrades" are one of the reasons these things are so much more expensive now. By the way, most of the Norinco SKSs have matching serial numbers, they were commercial imports, not military rifles

The only thing I did to mine was added a receiver cover with a built in rail to mount a scope. It can easily be changed back to the original.

Hey man, bubbafied SKS's are cheap. Only reason I own one. Picked it up from a gunshow for 250$

I built on like this from a parts kit barreled receiver and it's not like I took a matching one and just switch the stock, so I actually saved the sks.

I don't really understand the "historical significance" of SKSs. Vietnam or PLA bring backs are a different story but what is so amazing about a rifle that was replaced after like 2 years of military use? Most of it's "military" use was mass quantities shipped to farmers substituting as soldiers. No one wanted them after the AK was invented so they shipped them out to gorilla fighters. The only reason your OG SKS is so valuable is because so many people have bubba'd them and the US banned them from being imported. They aren't some miracle rifle lost to the sands of time that everyone is trying to get their hands on

That thing looks like it soaks in more water than if it was wood furniture

When I was younger I did this to a matching number type 56 sks. I don’t have the rifle anymore but when I see my old wood stock and bayonet it hurts. Just buy a Ar if you plan on tricking it out

If you own the rifle, do what you want to it. This is America!

This is how I bought mine at a gun show, except it was an even worse tapco stock. I spent several months buying a replacement stock and several other parts to bring it back to factory standard. The Choate folding stock is flimsy as hell too.

I have that same exact kit on my Russian Sks. You're right the stock is too long. Is there another kit i can fit my rifle out with that has a shorter stock. I like that the stock folds but its too long when unfolded.
