So much work goes into that. Thanks for showing the steps and helping people realize why there is such a premium on silver like this. Looks awesome!

Neat ! I did notice you were sanding before the surface plate under the belt. Try and stay up on there so you get a nice flat bottom. Sitting at the side of the sander as well will give you a larger field to orientate vertical as well. A 320 to 400 belt will give a far nicer finish and a pair of roper gloves will protect your pinkies as I sure know how well silver reacts to any kind of heat. Amazing stuff that way for sure. I have a piece of glass I use under my sandpaper that is wonderful for making flat. Like you I love to do things by hand. It is as you say far more satisfying for sure. Great post fella.

In 7th grade I sanded the palm of my hand on a large belt sander like that. I pressed my small piece of wood against the belt and it went flying. My hand then took the place of the piece of wood. Ouch! Be careful with that sander.

Are your sander shavings contaminated with sand paper grit or other debris? If so, are the contaminated shavings just a waste product?

Wonderful creation. Two questions, how much silver is in it approximately and with all the additional work with the detail put in and board etc, can I afford one? Curious to what the price is approx.

If you go to "Rio Grande" they have a product called "Burlife". It is a wax like tube that I use on all my files, saws, sandpaper etc. to keep them from clogging up. The stuff is like magic. It really works. Check out my last video on stamping. The product I use ("Jett Basic") comes from "Rio Grande" as well. YOU MUST get this. It is reusable a thousand times and inexpensive as well.. Under 10 min to make a custom fit stamping pad, start to finish with just a bit of hot water. Have you considered a tumbler for polishing ? The stainless media and distilled water with "Dawn" dish detergent and a product called "Silver Soap" really smooths the little voids and flash lines out without destructive actions. Seems I am babbling eh. It is all things I have tried and trust to make the best piece I can.

That sulfur almost gives it a wood finish look (to colorblind people I'm sure, as I'm one of them)
