In this video you can see how to build a complete chessboard and chess pieces made of aluminium and brass.

Inspired by Netflix's "The Queen's Gambit" we decided to build a chessboard with chess pieces in our school.

Materials: Aluminium, Brass

Absolutely amazing. I worked in CNC manufacturing for 31 years but only in a setter/operator capacity and slowly watched the evolution of CNC machines. Back then in 1983 compared to now it is on a whole new level. When I try to explain to people it is the same old "you're only pressing a few right! Get a good quality programmer and you your factory and product are in safe hands. Out of curiosity how much would a chess set cost. I would estimate maybe £8-10000?

that is an absolutely beautiful board and pieces. great milling work too.

The truly unsung heros of these multi axis CNC machines are the software engineers! As someone who has written software for a 2D CNC I made, I can only imagine the added complexity of several more axes, tool changing, angle/side changing! All this and the program having to make all the spatial coodinate calculations as well as the decisions of exactly how to remove the material, it's mind boggling!

One of the most satisfying videos I've ever watched.

Beautiful! We did this, making a chessboard with all the pieces, in 1980, on our first CNC lathe at school. The milling was done on a punch tape controlled milling machine.

From a beginner with a mini lathe, it’s insane how much material that cnc can take off without any problems. Seeing the first pawn being made had me shocked.

I run a CNC lathe NL2500 mori Seiki for the last 8 years. And I’ve never seen CNC used so beautifully 💯 great job 👏🏾

Incredible job, I know what it means to do something like this, I studied Metal Mechanics in high school at a German school that had a CNC milling machine, and I had the opportunity to make a chessboard with its pieces, only much simpler and made of wood. Thanks for showing us the amazing process.

Man, sometimes i watch these videos and wonder how freaking powerful modern large scale cnc machines are! Cutting through solid steel with such ease and such precision. Its terrifing yet so beautiful. Technology and machining has come so far.

Good gods. Reminds me of doing mine when I was 12 in '88. Had to graph paper the shape and with tool templates work out the correct geode program. Then hand type it in on 3.5" floppy drive school cnc. The poor thing could only cope with about 30mm diameter it took me a couple of months of dinner times to run the cnc! Still have the parts! Loved it. Although the aluminium did chatter whilst being machined. Never did work out why. Spindle speed probably.
Lovely job.

Holy molly, this would be so dope to have. It looks like something a super villain would have in his lair.

Have no words for this art piece. Although the machine has done most of the work but designing every pieces and turning them into masterpieces is absolutely brilliant. Especially the knights. Thank you so much for sharing this video.

I hope an event that destroyed ancient advanced civilisations would not occur for another few generations. If this is what's possible now, it would be interesting to see how far technology can take us. This video on CNC Milling and Turning is mindblowing. Danke MyGcode, das war unglaublich.
