“I’m preparing for the debate by having my friend who lies a lot stand in for Tim Walz.”

That could be the worst constructed joke I’ve ever seen. It’s on par with saying something like “Your mom is so ugly, I’m reminded of her when I see other unattractive people”. His advisers clearly told him to joke around to look normal, but he has no idea how humans construct jokes, so you get a joke like “Tim Walz is such a liar, my friend who are liars remind me of him” and then he laughs at his own “joke”.
