How stored trauma creates somatic symptoms (aka: chronic illness)

On January 16, I did a long-form Q&A that was a big hit and I wanted to make sure you knew about it, especially if you’re someone who lives with chronic illness. This Q&A focused on chronic illness; what it is, how it sets in, and what must be put in place so one can heal at the root level, which is, you guessed it, the nervous system level. There was one very important point that I don’t want anyone to miss, so I recorded a new vlog, just under nine minutes, so you could get this information directly.

This important point has to do with symptoms in the body and how they ‘pop’ and become a reality when we do not process emotions and heal unresolved traumas.

► Peter Levine:

► Gabor Maté:

► Robert Scaer:

I have experienced extreme pain and stiffness seemingly magically disappear all together, when I've had a conscious release by staying with the feeling/emotion. This has happened so many times now - going from extreme pain and stiffness prior, to being completely pain and stiffness free. The contrast & speed with which the pain and stiffness disappears still blows my mind.

Just found your channel! I’ve had epilepsy for 13 years. Most of my seizures are stress-induced/related. I appreciate your posts!

Right, I have delayed responses to situations, like emotional issues. I'm now 52, it has taken me this long to get in touch with who I am and how I am feeling. It is a lot, alot of anger & fear & shame & guilt & sadness = pent up. As I am getting chiropractic treatment, it is releasing alot of emotions! Isn't that something !! Thank you for this vid!!! 💗👍

I bought the book you referred to thinking it might help. When I was first browsing through it, I saw a child's hand drawn picture of a little girl floating above a bed that obviously had people in it covered up with blankets. I've had this exact dream many times and I practically threw the book to get it away from me, and my heart started pounding very hard. I don't want to look at this book again, but will do so if it will help me. I just don't see how feeling that way can help me. I'm now in my 60s and have become an "avoider" of life since I get migraines nearly every day (wake up with them). I've had fibromyalgia for years throughout my years of employment (40+) before I was finally given disability due to migraines, fibro, TMJ, panic attacks, etc - take your pick. I have two grown children who understand a little since I can't really talk to them about it. I've dedicated my life to them and being a good mother, like I was lucky enough to have, though she couldn't protect me. I've had many, many panicky dreams from the time I was very young up to now, although the content has changed through the years. I don't remember all the details now, and didn't remember much at all until my early 30s, other than the very odd sexual dreams a small child should not have. Sorry about the long comment. Talking about it really doesn't make it better; I tried counselors (all female) when I was younger. There's no help for this. My brain terrorizes me when I try to sleep and I'm afraid to go to sleep.

My mind is a little blown and I had to watch this video a few times. I'm 43, diagnosed with ADHD in late 2018 and am pretty sure I have C-PTSD (raised by mom with undiagnosed narcissistic personality disorder). I suddenly developed Raynaud's in 2018 and, up until now, I thought it was completely random and just bad luck -- especially since I live in Buffalo, NY! Go figure! Thank you!!!

So how can I get to the root cause of what is causing my body to produce these awful sensations? I keep having symptoms of dizziness and lightheadedness along with palpitations. I know I have issues with anxiety.

why are we going into more fight-flight-freeze if we don’t feel our emotions? how does that work? what is the fight/flight/freeze in this case: do you mean that the symptom (for instance migrane) is getting worse? OR is it the fight/flight/freeze of the emotion beneath the symptom that is getting intenser?

Its been shown people with migraines secrete more salt in their urine and have more sensory neurons in the brain. Angela stanton PhD neuroscientist has helped me with my migraines by change in diet and increase in whole foods low carb for potassium and added sodium for electrolytes. And magnesium. I still was unable to prevent some once monthly hormonal migraines. She does talk about how stress etc could turn on some genes and make a child more sensitive and prone to migraines and how it's possibly a useful adaptation because people with these extra sensory neurons could stand guard and be more sensitive to light, sound etc at night while the rest of the tribe slept. She says migraine isn't a chronic illness its just a difference and we have to be more careful and take extra care with sleep, hydration and food etc. It just seems that migraine has to do with physical brain differences or epigenetics in addition to nervous system dysregulation.
