Linus Torvalds > Steve Jobs, yet Steve is more respected, most probably coz he made a tone of money, he is a genus no doubt, in his younger days he was a 100x worse person then Linus has ever been, yet Linus has contributed to the tech industry 1, 000, 000x then Jobs

I am sorry but I really enjoy the rage in Linus speech. Everybody can defend themselves. People are too soft nowadays.

I don't think it's a bad thing if he wants to learn to improve his communication skills, BUT, I also can't help thinking that some people in the Linux "community" need to grow a thicker skin. I have never heard of anyone saying that Linus doesn't listen to and accept good ideas, or that he won't recognise good code and include it. Being dismissive of bad ideas or bad code, (bad for the Linux community as a whole, not just one author) may be harsh, but being harsh does make sure people know he thinks they are wrong and maybe they'll think more before putting forward the first thing they thought of or wrote.

As someone who has always had problems not blurting out what I think all my life, I know where his outbursts come from, and I've also been on the receiving end of such outbursts, I know it's not a mortal wound, you learn and move on and getting butt hurt for more that 5 minutes is just a waste of time. I hope Linus finds a new balance he is happy with, but I hope he doesn't continue to be strong in his rejection of bad ideas and code.

As for living with dyslexia, well, it's a pain, dyslexia comes in may forms and in varying degrees. I too find reading allowed leads me to stutter and mis-speak, sometimes I have to think and read twice (and I know people who really struggle with just reading). In writing spelling and grammar gets a bit wonky, but as long as the meaning gets through, that's what's important. Meh! it is what it is, part of life, we don't need to be so judgmental.

I do think Linus deserve a vacation from Linux every once in a while. Imagine all the hard work that goes into maintaining the kernel. Everyone involved should take a break when they can

Interesting thoughts! I like this definition of the open source model: The open-source model is a decentralized software development model that encourages open _collaboration_ (Wikipedia). That's how 'it' should work!

Joe the "I'd like to interject" is a joke on stallmanists people who post it in the comments aren't usually serious.

This is the first time I have ever watched a video from your channel, I found this link through youtubes recommended videos. I have never seen one of your videos before today. And I just wanted to say, that I agree with everything you just said.

Great thoughts.
Linus took a vacation. GREAT.

As far as people calling you out on misspeaking or mistyping. Here is my not being politically correct. Let them try to speak for 20 minutes on a subject without making a mistake.

Yall need to get over yourself. If any of you think you can do better for the beginning user by all means please go do it.

Recent subscriber - I am a long time Windows guy who is moving to Linux mainly due to your videos. As a background I started playing computer games with Apple 2e/2gs and moved to IBM 486 DX4-100 where I upgraded my 2nd workstation component, a 2 mb diamond stealth video card. My first upgrade was a 40mb Vulcan hard drive on my Apple. No one will read this so I will continue to ramble. I retired from the Navy in 1997 and having only a couple of Novell classes and no real experience I was lucky enough to get a job doing some contract work. I started working on Novell and DOS 6.22 and Windows 3.12. Would get a woody when I could find a mouse driver that loaded high with as little space as room was at a minimum back then. Anyway, since then I have cut my teeth on many versions of WIndows up to the current WIN10 OS. I obtained my BS in Information Systems (Just cause I wanted to) and also got certified as an MCSE back on WIN NT. Added some easier certs like A+, Network+ and Security+. Anyway, I finally decided that I wanted to learn something new and move away from Windows and get into something I can devote a lot of time to when I retire in about 7 years and also don't want to spend any more than necessary on an OS or the programs that go with it. Would much rather start with Mint and see where it takes me. Just ordered a couple of pieces from ODROID to put together a bot to run a plex server and will see where that takes me. Will start with some SBC machines and then build a MINT box to eventually take over all my day to day things that I currently do on my WIN10 machine. The exception will be gaming as I will always need one for that aspect. Might try EVE running on a WIN VM...will have to see where that takes me...anyway...looking forward to the ezeelinux and freedompenguin websites and also more videos from you. Thanks Joe for all that you are doing.

I´m feeling quite similar about all this. Hope GNU and Linux will stay as great as they are!
