Paraiba, originally found in Brazil differs itself from other similar colored tourmalines by the fact that is has high coper contents. This is why other deposits recently found in Africa, may not come from the Paraiba mine but is still under the umbrella term Paraiba. This is why you always want to make sure you have an origin report for the stone because they will fetch a premium.

Nice video girls - honestly, the best I have ever seen 😍 on the subject. My family is from Paraíba and your pronunciation is excellent 😃. My mother and my grandmother were born in the region where this gem was discovered. They both unfortunately died prematurely, around 40 years, of breast cancer. I am now an Oncologist and I love jewelry and gemology. For obvious reasons, Paraíbas are my favorite colored gemstone. If you knew what it means to have a gem so beautiful and precious - as beautiful as the purest sea waters - rising from the depths of a land so dry and suffering ( not so long ago Paraíba people used to suffer from hunger and misery due to the lack of water and resources, my ancestors included), you would see that perhaps it is worth even more. Love from Brazil 🇧🇷

Paraiba pricing is ridiculous, but apatite is a great recommendation for a replacement. Not only it can have the same colour, but it has very similar luster for less than 1% of the Paraiba price.

The other thing is, that people tend to call every copper-bearing tourmaline a Paraiba. I've even seen yellowish green stones sold as Paraiba. They are much more affordable, and they have the same electric glow as blue ones, so it might be something to consider.
