Why Super Mario Bros. 3 is the Greatest Game Ever Made

I'll never understand how people can legitimately think World is better than 3. Just in terms of level design, 3 blows World out of the water. Then take into account that 3 was innovated so much that it's mechanics and gameplay are still the foundation for what 2D platformers are. Even if you think World somehow edges out 3 in terms of gameplay (I disagree, but it is opinion), you still have to give it to 3 just because it innovated so much more than World ever did. I can't even name them all, but the improvement on the original Mario is so great, it's hard to believe that they came out on the same system just a few years apart. Then, you have level design that somehow stays fresh and original after 100+ levels, with things like the boot only being used for one short level, but leaving a lasting impression for everyone who has played the game.

To me, a great game has to do multiple things. It has to innovate, doing things that haven't been done before, it has to be high quality and acclaimed upon release, and it has to age well, proving that it didn't just innovate for another game to take and make better with new ideas/technology. It's very rare for a game to be both innovative and timeless, and while Nintendo has a knack for being able to do both, SMB3 is the crowning achievement of that combination.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that I've played Super Mario Bros. 3, the best game ever, video or not, probably literally at least a thousand times and I still like it as much as ever.

This is the game i got first on NES at my birthday.. So much great memories, playing with my cousin on multiplayer. I still remember all of those mini-games ... The locations of the flûtes, the different costumes, damn ... Yes, its a masterpiece.

Totally agree, this game is pure magic and it made such a huge impact when it showed up. The story develops in a beautiful way through the worlds with such imagination, so many different items that Mario would get. It's beautiful!

Super Mario Bros. 3 is a creative masterpiece. It grounded a foundation that was technically innovative, and excelled. Super Mario World pushed this foundation to its imaginative limits, and soared with flying colors. The implementation of Yoshi, the cape leaf power-up, and more clever secrets make Super Mario World legendary. Super Mario Bros. 3 is mind-bending, but Super Mario World is mind-blowing.

This game makes me think of spending hot summer days out in the pool, eating an ice cream cone and coming in at night to play this while a quarter moon shined down through my bedroom window and I love Lucy and happy days playing in the living room where my parents were. So cool how a game can take you back to such a great time in your life. Love this game!

In 1990, I was 6 years old. This game was my life that year. And then I got a Genesis and Sonic became my life. Unfortunately I didn't have a SNES until the late 90s.

I remember when SMB 3 came out and I thought it was the greatest game ever. Then super Mario world came out and then I thought that was the greatest game ever. Then Mario 64 came out and etc etc . Nintendo was just so damn good
