I'm currently waiting on 4 suppliers to get back to me after I phoned them and sent emails weeks ago. If I find that they're dicking around with gun wars and destressing you can bet I'll be taking my business elsewhere. Get the job done!

When I was fresh out of college, I went to work for an engineering company. Everyone was young and the project manager was friendly to everybody. Some people saw this as an excuse to not be professional at all. There was a quiet, shy but polite guy who quit after a week because others would throw rubber bands at him (many used to play with them) and call him names. After he left, people were still making fun of him because he was “weak” and a “snitch” when clearly he was bullied out of a job. I evaded some of those bullies after that and was thankful my department wasn’t that “playful” (some of them were but respected those who wouldn’t want to play along).

Where do these HR people, and others, get these statistics that having mandatory "fun" and "community" makes people more motivated, and perform better? I never understood this. I like to go in, get my job done with as little contact as possible, and go home.
