I honestly believe this doesn't end the way Raphael wants. Asmodeus has full control over the hells. Much craftier archdevils have tried and failed to defeat him. Asmodeus changed Beelzebul into a slug, eternally froze Levistus in ice, convinced Zariel to fall and has held off Mephistopholes' schemes for centuries. It doesn't matter how powerful Raphael gets, he only lives as long as Asmodeus permits it

The voice actors for Ketheric, Orrin, and Raphael are superb.

Mephistopheles: "Ahh, just like dear old dad - the first time from archdevil to lemure. It's like puberty all over again. They grow up so fast, don't they?"

The lore implications of your choice are huge. I'm sure that's whatever canonized in the end will be tamer, but the things you can set in motion are huge. Raphael potentially ruling the nine hells for one (provided he actually succeeds), starting a githyanki civil war for another, and that's not even mentioning the various bad endings you can bring about.

If you do this you miss out on the fantastic musical-esque song that starts playing in the background when you fight him!

Yknow when you think about it, if you're romancing Karlach this is the best ending you could hope for, Raphael kills Zariel, continues fucking up the Hells until Asmo gets tired of his shenanigans and whoops his ass. Karlach and you go to Avernus and nobody is around to come after you, and once Raphael is dead you can take the house of hope for your own. W's all around

I love how this scene completely changes when you have context. First time you watch it, you might think Raphael had a decent chance at succeeding in his plan.

Then you remember that not only is the Crown broken, but he's trying to use said broken crown to fight Asmodeus, arguably one of the most powerful deities in the Forgotten Realms period.
