As an engineering student I learned ODE's in the fall of 1974 with Spiegel's excellent book 'Applied Differential Equations'. The next semester we used Miller's book on PDE's. I still have copies of both books! Miller's book is so well written, you really can use it in a self-learning environment. The only thing missing is Laplace transform methods. Laplace transform methods are important for solving diffusivity equations (the heat equation) with complex boundary conditions. The best book I have on Laplace solutions of the heat equation is the old engineering book 'Conduction Heat Transfer' by Arpaci. His Chapter 7 is a tour-de-force. Arpaci has it all, including using contour integration methods to invert the Laplace solutions to the time domain. In practice numerical inversion of the Laplace transform solution via the Stehfest algorithm is now universally done. As a result contour integration is de-emphasized. Laplace transform methods are exceptionally good at deriving early and late time solutions to rather complicated problems.

This look like a solid old book on PDEs. I took a course that used Farlow's Partial Differential Equations for Scientists & Engineers. I thought it was a good book. Plus it's in a Dover reprint now.

I have some old ones like that, too, and I have to give them some careful study again. Thanks for the look at an old classic!

Greetings from New Hampshire...I am a fellow math book collector for many years and acquired about 100 or so math books ranging from middle school math with pre-algebra through the more advanced math such as Partial DE, Complex Analysis, and other post-calculus topics. I also have an Integral Equations text as well. Do you have any books on Integral Equations, since I have yet to see any on your videos? I also collect calculators which I have about 65 or so. Do you collect calculators too? If so, what is your favorite calculator? Your reply is much appreciated. Take care...

Would be nice if you cover books on Philosophy of Mathematics.

Hello professor, I just watched where you said it only takes two weeks. I was very motivated by it because I just failed my first Calculus I exam due to cheating on all my previous math courses. I was wondering, do you think I can catch up to the other students in my class? I currently don’t have a good basis of algebra and pre-calculus due to cheating. How can I catch up? If so, how would you approach it?
