I think the COVID fear is excessive for a tiny island in control of who comes and who does not come. But I think working remotely may allow people in Hawaii more job opportunities beyond the island that could mean staying in Hawaii instead of having to leave the state. Hawaii most the time does not have enough jobs in enough sectors and too many youth leave. Everyone is not cut out for hospitality jobs. Or people who left Hawaii the conditions to move back home and keep their job with the company they already work for or at least with work history to be considered for employment remotely from companies on the mainland.
