Don't Make Me Think | Steve Krug | UX Design Book Review

"Don't Make Me Think" by Steve Krug is one of the first books I read when I was getting into digital design. It helped me move from designing things that just "look nice" to designing things that are usable, useful, memorable and simple to learn and use.

This book was originally published in 2000, then re-published in 2006 and then again in 2014. What's amazing about Don't Make Me Think is its ability to stand the test of time because it's not talking about trends that change from year to year or technology which changes at the drop of a hat, but about solid foundational truths that have will always be applicable.

In the video, I cover what the book is about, what I like and dislike about it and who I think the book is a good fit for (spoiler the answer is everybody).

Almost 20 years later in the web design business and I frequently quote the title of this book to clients. Keep it simple. Don't make me think!

I like the way you emphasize important points. It is like magnifying a detail. You got thumbs up man.

Hey Jesse, I just bought this book last night from Apple bookstore, that was a bit more expensive than I thought. His voice is really clear and friendly. What I like the most is that he's not going too fancy and being practical advice for small businesses. I love it! Thanks for the recommendation. :)

To know the "why"s behind things... that's what I'm about.
Now to wait for my copy to arrive in the mail.

Only the name of the book is already a great tip for UX design :o

As a Mid-level UI/UX Designer and a Graphic designer I've been promoted to Senior because of god and the reason was this book, because there are small details that distinguish between a Junior designer and senior designer and those details exist on this book! Steve Krug literally, he's a genius. thank you for this video ❤‍🔥

Good quick review. I've heard such good things about this book so I ordered it from Amazon the other day. Haven't read it yet, but imagine my surprise when I received a $45 book with only 200 pages. But, maybe that is part of the meta-user experience: perhaps the info is so good and there's no fluff? I own it now I guess. I was expecting the size of a Head First book.

Awesome, Jesse! Going to buy this book asap! Also, need your advice, now that it's 2022 - what do you recommend for design, especially for designing mobile applications? with an emphasis on iOS? and cross platform - iOS, Android, web? THANKS !

Just a note, after listening to the first 10-seconds of this video. Make music almost imperceptible (at least, right at the start) or leave it out entirely. You'd be surprised how little music it takes to distract from the speaker's words.

What book do you guys recommend for usability testing after this book? I really enjoyed the concept of usability & I like to learn more about it. Especially with real data!
