You pointed out several times that Yuna and Rikku have similar outfits, if you cast Scan on the girls during combat it reveals that Yuna gets a lot of her outgoing inspiration from Rikku and tries to copy her a bit. I thought it was funny.

The fact that we don’t have any of these outfits as glams in FF14 is criminal.

Also, some details you didn’t go over; Yuna’s gunner outfit incorporating the Zanarkand Abes emblem for Tidus, as well as the weapons used by different jobs. Yuna’s Warrior sword is Tidus’s Brotherhood and Rikku’s is Tidus’s Crystal Sword. On Samurai, Rikku has Auron’s default weapon, and Yuna has the Spider’s Kiss. For Dark Knight, Rikku wields Auron’s celestial weapon, the Masamune, and Yuna has Tidus’s celestial weapon, the Caladbolg. The staffs used by White Mage and Black Mage are all staffs used by Yuna during her pilgrimage, with White Mage Yuna having her default staff, and Black Mage Yuna using her celestial weapon, the Nirvana.

Yunas warrior fit is sweet because she brandishes Wakkas sword he gave Tidus, Brotherhood, the blue sword.

the best part about dress spheres is it just takes the already classic job change concept in FF, but gives it a fun, poppy twist that suits the starring trio

Yuna's outfit from FFX-1 to FFX-2 is like the perfect upgrade of a character's outfit between sequels. Perfectly represents the old outfit while expressing the evolution of how Yuna has become more extrovert, more pro-active, more independent.

Severely underrated and underappreciated FF

I always thought the reason for Yuna and Rikku's similarities is because they're relatives so it's to show that shared familial element

This was such a nice video to stumble upon! FFX2 was steeped in controversy when it was released. It is SO nice to see a FFX2 video just having FUN with the game. And FFX2 is a FUN game!

Thank you for this wonderfully thoughtful romp down memory lane.

The dresssphere system is my favorite job system ever! X-2 was so fun and the combat is one of my favorites. Love your picks for best dressed!

Final Fantasy 13 Lightning Returns is clothes based, with mix and match stats and styles. I think you do have to pay attention though which abilities you attach with clothes as you need to level them up in time for the boss fight.

Interesting! Love the analysis. I think my order and then best dressed in each would be totally different.

I remember I had the strategy guide book and I was trying to assign all the dress spheres. Deciding who got to use each was almost completely based on best dressed, other than someone couldn’t have (for instance) white and black mage even if they looked best in both. Because we need certain ones to work together!

Btw, FFU's recent video on the evolution of Samurai mentions that in X-2, Paine is the only character with a sword not originally belonging to Auron because she didnt meet Auron and didn't have the established, emotional connection for a dressphere to draw from. Interesting theory but watching this video certainly lends credence to it because there are a few other dresspheres wherein Yuna and Rikku have a weapon taken by an OG character but Paine doesnt.

The colors on a lot of the outfits may seem odd, you look closely at the beginning of the game where we're introduced to the trio, once it shows them as YRP, the Y is a pinkish red, the R is yellow, and the P is a funky violet leaning blue (but it's definitely blue nevertheless). It's that particular set of colors for them that made me decide to do fanart of them as the first three from 2003 TV series Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger (Yuna as Abared, Rikku as Abareyellow, Paine as Abareblue; with a friend of mine as Abareblack and Lulu as Abarekiller).

Also, there's a bit of a photography subtext in there as well; it's the three primary colors of photography...magenta (hence the pinkish tone of red), yellow, & cyan (no idea how they did that with a violet blue).

Between Rikku's Songstress outfit and her overall design, can't convince me that the character designers didn't get inspiration from Christina Aguilera's looks around that time. 😏😏😏 And I'm guessing Paine's your favorite character, given how many times she won best dressed. 😏😏😏

Folk shat on X2 for being japanese Charlie's Angels, but as a longtime fan of JRPGs, and especially the FF franchise, I remember it as the last turn based game the series had for a LONG while.

This is really cool! X-2 got a lot of unnecessary hate back in the day, but it was really good as a spin off and has one of the best FF combat systems.

I love that the trainer outfits give each of the girls one of the animals from the momotaro story
