"QX01: Introduction to quantum information and its associated technologies" is a series of lectures targeted to engineering and science students to understand the newly emerging quantum technologies. It aims to be followed by any 2nd or 3rd year student with a minimum background in physics, mathematics and computer science.

In Chapter 3, we introduce the notion of quantum bits or qubits. We will start by the definition of a qubit and how it is different from a classical bit. We will then describe the mathematical representation of a qubit using the Dirac representation of the bra-ket representation. We then move to describe the Bloch sphere representation of a qubit. We provide a physical example of a ‘simple’ qubit: the photon and we finally discuss the dual space of a ket as in the « bra » dual qubit.
