Why Don't Modern Warships Have Large Guns? #shorts

Modern warships have significantly fewer large guns compared to their historical counterparts due to several strategic and technological reasons. The factor is the advancement of missile technology, which has largely obsoleted traditional gun armaments.

We are actually thinking about bringing back the battleship for amphibious landing. It is cheaper to pound the area around a landing zone with cannons.

Big problem with the missiles is having to rearm a ship at sea. Most have to return to a port thus taking the ship out of action.

Yes you correct, I must say that the guns on the Battleship are very expressive and strong intimidating.
Just my humble opinion 🙏

Do you know what a ship can’t be protect from, a 16 inch shell. You can swarm these ships with cheap drones making them use up their 50 or 60 units them they are just large slow moving targets with very little defense armor to absorb the impact of even a 5” shell. This all needs to be re-thought.

The big guns in uss iowa *has 96 (probably but its very accurate that it doesn't need a computer) percent accuracy*

Shore bombardment with guns is no longer necessary with more accurate missile technology. Guns are now primarily intended as Close In Weapons for nearby threats. A 5” can do plenty of damage within a couple of miles. There are now better systems for targets beyond that. 🤷🏻‍♂️

3 Guns on MM Caio Duilio - Andria Doria Class, 2 Guns on MM Emilio Bianchi - Carlo Bergamini class, 2 Guns on MM Cavour, 3 Guns on INS Vikrant 🙃

Large guns are a lot cheaper than missiles and can still be deadly.

Omg they wrote a bad movie about it. The aliens jammed all the modern warships with EMP so only retired gunships had anything that worked. It was a huge plot hole, I know but nobody cared that you still use electricity to fire big guns.

High tech is fine but how many missiles do they carry? It better be a lot of them.

Once you’re out of expensive missiles then what? Shake your fist and throw a banana? How about a sustained engagement? The costs are extreme. Shells on the other hand are way cheaper.

I’ve actually heard this is false. If you want to do an amphibious invasion, the battleship gun are still cheaper and less cost deficient than a missile. Missiles just are scarier

Why not tell truth greed missiles cost more like in the range of 2 million per missile vs 40, 000 and resupply 1000 vs 120 missile greed always win out even over complemise

''Obsoleted'' ? That's a new one. Holy Moly some Americans are making a complete mess of the English language.

You take out or jam GPS capability, and all these ships are worthless. Good luck with one 5-inch gun if you ever meet the enemy. All this techno shit is just a myth if fighting a capable opponent with countermeasures.

The Ukrainians have used land based missiles and unmanned sea drones effectively against Russia's Black Sea fleet!
