Michael Goran and Emily Ventura are co-authors of the book “Sugarproof: The Hidden Dangers of Sugar that are Putting Your Child’s Health at Risk and What You can Do” published by Avery in 2020. Michael is a Professor of Pediatrics at The Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, which is affiliated with the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California. He is Program Director for Diabetes and Obesity at The Saban Research Institute and he holds the Dr Robert C and Veronica Atkins Endowed Chair in Childhood Obesity and Diabetes. Dr Goran also serves as Co-Director of the USC Diabetes and Obesity Research Institute. Dr Goran is a native of Glasgow, Scotland, and received his Ph.D. from the University of Manchester, UK (1986) prior to postdoctoral training in the US (1987 to 1991). He previously served on the faculty of Medicine at the University of Vermont (1991 to 1994), the Department of Nutrition Sciences at UAB (1994 to 1999), the Department of Preventive Medicine at USC (1999 to 2018) prior to joining Children's Hospital of Los Angeles.

When I first found Chef AJ she showed about eating oranges and how a glass of juice would contain so many oranges and it would be better to just eat the orange and have a glass of water. I have that in my mind when I see people eating orange juice.

Chef AJ, I am so thankful for you and your advice on abstinence. For decades I tried "moderation, " and failed miserably. Just as for some people "one drink is one drunk, " for me "one bite is one binge." Abstinence is a much easier path.

I find that when you read the ingredients on a can of peas and it has sugar in it, the common person who isn't looking out for sugar doesn't have a chance. Sugar is in everything.

I'm making my morning smoothie as I watch this. I usually add 8 drops of stevia to sweeten it so this time I've added four dates instead. Just had a taste and it's very nice.

Missed your IRIE Livestream Chef AJ, but here listening to Dr. Goran! 😀I wonder where he stands on the nutritional benefits of cold-pressed sugarcane juice and raw sugar, which here in Mexico is called 'Piloncillo' while in India its called 'Jaggery'? Refined white sugar is not good, its a toxic poison that shouldn't be categorized as food. Thanks for sharing, 👍 and greetings 👋from Mexico for Charles, Bailey and you! 🙂

Great discussion. I use monk fruit sweetener but will try to cut it out of my diet. I use a tsp. with my green tea🙃. I would like to know about fats in kids diet too.
