Swim University makes pool and hot tub care easy for millions of homeowners. Each year, we continue to help more people with water chemistry, cleaning, and troubleshooting. We know taking care of a swimming pool or spa can be difficult. And it’s hard to find a trusted source of information. This is the reason we created Swim University.

Matt walks you through every setting on a multiport valve for a sand pool filter.

Best video I've seen. Thanks for explaining closed position. I need to change pool pump and this should help me.

Your videos and handbook (which my husband and I are now reading together) should come mandatory with every pool. We bought a house with a pool and its overwhelming all the info. Now we finally are feeling confident and excited! Thank you!

Thank you! I bought an inexpensive sand filter for an small above ground pool I put up on the patio each summer for my daughters. The operating instructions leave a lot to be desired. I appreciate your video!

I thought you were only supposed to move the filter handle in one direction only you seem to be going back and forth does it make a difference then?

I have a hayward one. What are the steps to removing it to replace the gasket. Some videos say to remove the pressure, but don’t show to to remove the pressure. Thank you

Thanks so much for your time and effort in presenting this video. I like the plastic fence behind you.
How long do you do the backwash for and the rinse for?

Great analogy with the clutch. Also, do we need to backwash it before first time use to get rid of any excess sand?

I really appreciate you doing this video. I’ve been struggling with trying to maintain the pool clean being that I am waiting for a new sand filter assembly that I, myself took apart. Rather than to have the water sit till I wait for the new filter assembly can I use the pool in recirculate mode with no side mounted sand filter attached? Can I still vacuum to waste to clean all of the debris on the bottom of the pool?

My sand filter valve only has 4 settings. Filter, rinse, backwash, and winterize. What should I do when vacuuming to waste? I have been vacuuming to rinse and then backwashing and rinse again then back to filter. We plan to buy a new valve with a waste setting later.

At my Starpool Midas multiport water are slowly leaking out through the waste line. The operating handle can be moved up and down without resistance. Only when pushing it down the spring load can be felt. When taking the top of the spring and handle works as intended. Would you know what is wrong? Thanks :)

Above ground pool owner here, closed is used all the time when I clean out my pump filter basket. It's a lot easier than putting a plug in my return jet. We have positive pressure at the pump, not negative.

Hi... should I put the pump on circulate when shocking the pool?

Which is correct for running in water vacuum, connecting inside the skimmer or on a return port with a vacuum attached port. This pool has a vacuum port they moved from shallow to deep end. Its 20x40 and 8ft deep. Ive seen 4 different videos and they say do it one way or the other. Its a gunite pool with a vinyl liner inground. Hayword sand filter. So connect to the vacuum/return water port or directly inside the skimmer for leave in vacuum? Which is better for waste removal vacuuming?
Thanks so much

I have a nylon gasket that sits under the handle that started to warp on my unit. It looks like it was molded into a bowl shape.
Have you guys ever heard of that??
