"It's crazy to me that we have all of this beauty and nature around us, and some people don't even see it. For me, I get to appreciate it sober. Something I didn't think was possible. I didn't think happiness was possible." - Sarah

Going from rock bottom to the mountaintop, one woman’s journey
from the streets to the top of one of the most challenging mountains to climb in the lower 48.

Thank you REI and Sarah for the amazing story, I am in the process of recovery right now from an alcohol addiction and have this exact same goal to climb Rainer this upcoming 2019 season to prove to myself I can beat this addiction and follow my passion for the mountains. This video hit straight to the heart and I loved every second of it! Wow, what an accomplishment, so happy for you all!

The Colorado trail saved my life. I came to Colorado last year to fish and camp and discovered the trail and made up my mind I was going to Durango if it killed me. Never backpacked a day in my life. I loved it so much I hiked it again this year! I'm actually sitting in a yurt as I type this . Keep hiking people !!

This is a beautiful example of the power of the climb. When you look at the mountain and say "I'm going up there" and you do it. All of the suffering and the pain juxtaposed against the sheer beauty and our strength and perseverance. I never feel more alive that moment when I'm almost at the top. If you can do this, you can do anything.

I love REI. I finally got to enter a store. I buy online from Puerto Rico. I went to the Orlando store; a dream come true.

As an addict 8 years into recovery who sees the importance of pushing oneself in all aspects of life to move forward I feel what you are doing. For me it's the rivers and the lakes, the sunsets and the rocks. Keep fighting. And climbing.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching this! I have a film about climbing the Grand Teton during cancer treatments titled "Mountain In The Hallway" and can relate to so much of the same feelings of hopelessness and depression. Being outdoors is the best remedy by far!

So now you're going to be addicted to climbing. According to Gaston Rebuffat, the Peutery Ridge is the most beautiful route on Mt Blanc; go for it.

Which climbing company did they join? It looks like the route was paved.

Let’s be honest. The standard routes on rainer are mild snow hikes.
