*edited: It actually works. I sound different and deeeper. All I have to do is be concious of my mouth shape during singing

I'd say, a high larynx alone doesn't cause a nasal tone. Nasality comes from tension in muscles that also happen to raise the larynx. Therefore, the essential goal is relaxing, and learning to sing with a lower larynx requires that. However one doesn't need to sing with a low larnyx to avoid nasality.
