Nikon 1 - J1 and V1 Preview

Nikon just announced a brand new camera system called the Nikon 1 with two cameras. The J1 and the V1. Nikon also announced 3 new lenses to go along with this system.

This is just a preview video with my first thoughts.

@rml695 Dont worry about the bloggers their job is to be negative and rip on everything without ever touching it. Are there things I dont like yes, there are features like spray and pray mode and the mode that tells you what a good image is. If you can turn off all the auto stuff and use the camera in manual than maybe we have something to work with.

i am extremely happy today. i have a very slow internet (beleive me, its too slow) and today is the first time i watched a full video without buffering, lags

@JaredPolin what would you think of a digital viewfinder inside as opposed to a mirror of a pro or amateur level DSLR? I have used a digital viewfinder before on someone else's camera and personally, I did not care for it. It just feels so weird.

the V1 looks really interesting. dont think many people are going to like the prices though

It's an interesting product. I like the direction Nikon is going with it, and the ability to buy that adapter and use my F lenses is very appealing. I know they aren't totally the same in features, but I'll be interested to see a comparison of the V1 and the Fuji X100.

@ProfessorOwen lens is designed for smaller sensor than apc so it would be even worse vignetting than using a dx lens on a fx body im sure

@JaredPolin what are thoughts on a possible upgrade to the D3 series. You think they'll ever upgrade their pro line? I sure as hell hope that they don't ditch the idea and "jump the shark" by strickly focusing on the amateur consumer market.

Is there a better or even comparable lens adapter to the ft1 that is maybe a little more affordable? Thanks in advance.

The only vantage that I found in this new system: If you have good Nikon mount F lens you can use it via adapter, but this adapter isn't really cheap. I mean, I prefer the Micro four-third system, is cheaper, and better. I love Nikon, but i think that Canon can do best.

The sensor seems to be quite small. It's even smaller than the micro four thirds system. Not sure how that will fare in low light, i'm guessing a little bad compared to it's rivals. I might be wrong though. Bring on the sniff test!

I have to agree - I am yet to see a good comment posted regarding these cameras. Think I'll start saving for a new Sony NEX and as a NIKON owner that hurts!!

@JaredPolin Good point, never mind, but they should still make a 6-800mm f/0.95 for 15$.
