It's fascinating how the long-term strategies of the US often go unnoticed in the present but become clear when viewed through the lens of history.

Hahahaha, Wow, the USA is such a nice country🥹 always helping others without asking for anything in return.

This is completely false. Colombia WAS interested but the parliament wanted more money instead of the amount the US was offering. So the US helped Panamanians gain their independence because there was already tension between Colombia and modern day Panama. After they gained independence, they gave the US the “Canal Zone” (a strip of land where the canal would be constructed). This land was leased to the US for about 100 years. After the 100 year timeframe, the US gave the Canal Zone back to Panama.
Learn history as it happened guys. Don’t believe people like this.

Actually the Panama Canal started as a French project but the French left due to many problems including diseases like malaria. that’s why the US took over the project.

Panama owns it, but if anything bad happens, the US can intervene to keep it safe (please
Like I saved your time 🙏)

The Americans merely finished what the French started. When the Americans arrived, they were amazed the French did so much with smaller machines.

By the way, Panama wanted independence because the Colombian president had gone to war with the federalist states of the country, he won and centralised government on the capital, Bogotá, the States became Departments and are until this day a practical colony of the capital with zero autonomy or power.

In Panama, the federalists actually won the war and were already independent, the US just made sure the Colombian government didn't try to take it back, and yeah, they made it s colony of their own for a while.

I'm Colombian by the way

well, no, actually, due to elevation and a number of other enviromental factors, the "perfect canal" would be north of panama in Nicaragua. the canal was built in Panama partly due to disagreements with the Nicaraguan Government, and partly due to the fact that there was extant but abandoned work on the Panama Canal the French had started a couple of years before, that's why the Panama Canal, unlike traditional canals, lifts boats gradually over part of the terrain rather than digging all the way through.

We didn’t build it for a faster trade route, that was just a benefit. We needed a faster route for our navy.
