COVID: HK$54 billion set aside with mainland aid to support Hong Kong's 'critical moment'

Hong Kong confirmed an all-time daily record of 8,674 new COVID infections on Wednesday.
Facing the climbing number and stretching medical facilities city is mulling over multiple countermeasures.
A total of HK$54 billion ($6.9 billion) of Hong Kong’s 2022 budget is announced to be spent on anti-epidemic measures including HK$10,000 (US$1,280) in digital vouchers handed out to 6.6 million eligible Hongkongers.
To support Hong Kong, Chinese mainland has sent two medical teams since last Thursday including epidemiologists and a hundred testing personnel.
A third team, involving over 1,000 medics, is now being formed in Hongkong’s neighboring province of Guangdong.
And daily supplies including fresh vegetables, meat and fish are continuously being transported to Hong Kong.
In addition, medical supplies are ensured round-the-clock deliveries upon Hong Kong’s request including N-95 face masks, protective suits rapid testing kits and traditional Chinese medicine.
Four temporary community isolation and mobile cabin hospitals began construction on Tuesday with support of the central government.
Local experts have warned Hong Kong of a climbing transmissibility of COVID in a near future due to community spreads.
Meanwhile, the testing capacity of Hong Kong has reached almost one million samples a day.
And the city will test all residents in March when all Hong Kongers must undergo nucleic acid tests three times.
