Portree is the capital of the Isle of Skye and a beautiful harbour/port town on Skye.

Located in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland and on the East side of the Isle Of Skye is the natural harbour. With its multi coloured houses and stunning backdrop of rolling hills, is not hard to understand why this town is so popular with tourists.

Portree or ‘Port Righ’ as it is also known in Gaelic which derives from ‘Port-an-Righ’ translating as ‘Kings Port’. It is believed that this dates back to 1540, when the town was visited by King James V of Scotland.

The town of Portree, is over 200 years old and was originally a fishing village. In the early 19th Century, Lord MacDonald created the small fishing, that nows attracts so many visitors each year.

Portree is the largest and busiest town on the Isle Of Skye and there is plenty for you to do and see during your visit. The town really does have everything you need to make your stay enjoyable.

Although Portree is the largest of the towns, in comparison with other towns in Scotland, it may seem small. Pier:

The Pier is a prominent landmark in the bay and was designed by Thomas Telford. Boat trips now run from the pier and offer visitors the opportunity to see the wonderful scenery of Portree from a different angle.

Public Transport:

Although public transport is a little limited on the Isle Of Skye, there are several bus services that run throughout the Isle of Skye, which depart from Somerled Square in Portree. There are also bus services that run from the square that connect passengers with both Glasgow and Inverness.

From basic 1 star accommodation to the more luxury 4 star hotels, Portree has a choice of hotels to choice from. The hotels are located in different parts of the town, as well as being close to the harbour. The hotels cater for all requirements and budgets, to help make your stay enjoyable.
