I used to work in childcare, and this was the best advice I received in my training about locating a missing child in an open public space: rather than just silently looking for the child based on description or yelling the child's name, you should get on the megaphone and shout the child's description. For example:, "we're looking for a five year old male, asian, black shirt, red shorts, black sandals."

I feel for the mother. I know what she was feeling. I'm a South Florida native, we were at our usual spot on Hollywood beach, and I was packing to leave with my 3 year old son. I turned my back for seconds, and that was all it took to lose him in the crowd. Though it only took a few minutes to find him, it felt like an eternity. The despair I felt was the worst feeling in the world. I felt it to the very depths of my soul, and I never want to feel it again. Today he is 26 years old. ❤
