Catherine de Medici (Samantha Morton) is Queen Regent of France now that her son, Charles IX has come of age. Distracted by the personal conflicts of the Valois children, a new mysterious prophet named Edith gains a loyal following who vow to challenge the current religious establishment, sparking tension across the country. Feeling threatened by the rising strain, the divided court turn to their own schemes for selfish benefit. The Guises commit unholy acts while the Bourbons turn to a familiar foreign sovereign, Queen Elizabeth I of England (Minnie Driver) in hopes of personal gain.

As France falls into political and religious turmoil, Catherine struggles to maintain her power, but The Serpent Queen will do whatever she needs to regain control.

Minnie Driver did a good job channelling Queen Elizabeth: both of them. It was the obvious barbed flattery and the portrayal of patient observation of the 'other' Queen made me think of the two monarchs who have borne that name. Clever piece of acting.

Some of the comments make me laugh. Yall really thought she didn’t know where Navarre is? Lol. Elizabeth was the queen of mind games. That is why she was a worthy opponent to Catherine.

I'm pretty sure the real Queen Elizabeth Tudor knew EXACTLY where Navarre was (LOL)

Queen Jeanne III didn't bow and call Queen Elizabeth "your Majesty" because she was the queen regnant of Navarre.

Idk why Queen Elizabeth always reminded me of the red Queen from Alice and wonderland 😩😂

I hate how much fiction is currently in these shows. The real history was crazy enough. Why change it? Ie, Bridgerton, Cleopatra, Last Philippa Gregory show etc.

When fiction comes in, truth goes out the door . . . .

This scene is utterly ridiculous. Elisabeth was righly cultivated, spoke several languages fluently, was good with math & new perfectly well were Navarre was. I do not understand what is the point in making a series or a film about history if history & historical figures will not be respected.
The whole conversation between the two queens is an aberration.

Over whom's eyes She is seen as a Serpent ? Funny how opinions change through out the years over people that are gone and can't defend themselves.

Anyone else find her mildly terrifying?

This is historical fiction for people who hate history and are bored by good fiction 🙄🙄🙄 This is like another Bridgerton ', completely innacurate, misses the point and panders to young tik tok fans w wannabe viral moments
