Catherine de Medici (Samantha Morton) is Queen Regent of France now that her son, Charles IX has come of age. Distracted by the personal conflicts of the Valois children, a new mysterious prophet named Edith gains a loyal following who vow to challenge the current religious establishment, sparking tension across the country. Feeling threatened by the rising strain, the divided court turn to their own schemes for selfish benefit. The Guises commit unholy acts while the Bourbons turn to a familiar foreign sovereign, Queen Elizabeth I of England (Minnie Driver) in hopes of personal gain.

As France falls into political and religious turmoil, Catherine struggles to maintain her power, but The Serpent Queen will do whatever she needs to regain control.

Anjou was the one who get the mother DNA and his eldest brother looks more like dad. Choosing the right spouse at that time was quite challenging: background and social rank, physical appearance ans character!

Stanley Morgan is incredible in this scene.

This show also has very modern music along with the modern sensibilities. It's the tone of the series and thats what makes it so fun and not a dull period piece. Oh what? So sad when you don't know how to have fun.

Stop whining....the show's entertaining ....and worth every penny to see Samantha in action ....problem is how do we get to see it in the UK 😂

True, if they dont love nor respect you, then make them fear you.

I doubt he would have been so self aware. Even in the 19th century, Queen Victoria toured Ireland and had to be told the Irish had every reason to hate her! People like that live in a bubble.

It seems to be “Hollyoaks” in fancy dress.

can just give them something to respect. You know? Like actually doing the work and becoming a better leader to serve your people?
Sad.
I'm gonna be watching this for sure.

The writing is inconsistent but it gets better in different parts of the series. I give the young actors credit. They do their best with it. Anjou might understand the real life "Game of Thrones" better than his siblings but his "vices" got in his way a bit. In the end, he understood Catherine's agenda BEST

Yeah because throwing a temper tantrum in public is so mature

They didn't even try to write a dialog that at least remotely reminded us about 16th century🤣 that is just some lads from the year 2023 dressed up, but having modern conversation😅

I can see they are totally acting. It reminds me of some American production. At least they didn't cast blacks playing the part of kings and Queens at the courts of Europe.

I don’t know Anjou but dressing like a lady in front of a queen and her entire court ( which I assume is a lot of rich people) seems to be a reason for their disrespect

?? Gotta say, if it were not for the perfect 'glow in the dark' porcelain veneers on all of their teeth, I would be more inclined to believe this was a period drama. (Just sayin' folks.)

This is more like a parody of a costume drama than an actual attempt at costume drama. This particular scene is Indeed a bit funny but it is not just the dialogue and language that is out of whack. It is the whole Idea of the scene. These are people from a much more violent world than ours and they would spend a conciderable amount of time being terrified of peasant rebellions. They would all have followed his line on this and reacted with immediate violence. It is a good Idea to try and understand the world you write about.

If the show's producers made the slightest effort to make the dialogue fit the period instead of the 2020s, I might pay to see this show. As it is, it's just boring and ridiculous, and reminds me of the Samuel Johnson quote: "That which is written without effort is in general [seen] without pleasure."

Looks like a ridiculous show trying to force modern sensibilities down our throats but in fancy dress. Get in the bin.
