American ragtime composer Scott Joplin’s “The Cascades” was written in 1904, in honor of the St. Louis World's Fair. The Rag was dedicated to two banjoists, whose surnames are all that are known. The piece is in ABCD form, containing four strains. It begins in C Major, and progressively modulates to B-flat Major and E-flat Major in the last two strains.

This performance is too fast for my liking but it’s one of my favorite rags regardless.
