As a Native American i can tell you we are runners. Ever where we use to go as children we ran. They knew the ins and out of that country. So don't count us out for not running that far. As a child we ran in the snow in our underwear at 5am every morning. Our elders made sure we were tough due to it becoming a "white mans " world.

I used to live near a place called cow mountain in a valley in a complete dead cell area in Northern California. . A friend from high school was up there camping, went out to pee and completely disappeared…no sign of him. Just walked away from his tent. I lived up there for two years and one night I was up late with a friend drinking about 2 or 3 in the morning and I heard this loud deep voice, there were syllables but I didn’t understand it…I grabbed my pistol and went outside in the pitch black night…on the other side of my garden was a creek and on the other side of the creek was the steep valley wall that deers could barely climb…something threw a basketball sized rock at least 15 or 20 years from up the hill across my garden and landed right next to where I was kneeling listening for something. Scared the living shit out of me. Something threw it.

I did 20 years in the military and you would be absolutely amazed at what your body can do when you have the proper motivation. Now do I believe that he ran and paddled without stopping, no I don't. Obviously you need stop to drink and catch your breath once and awhile. As for paddling 45 miles, if the current is strong and in your favor, it's not that unbelievable. Remember he did arrive back at the village half dead and it took three weeks to get him back to strength. As for his hair turning white, i had experience the same thing after dealing with a really bad infection that took a toll on my body. My doctor said that it's more common then you think and even people who have been in car accidents have experience their hair turning white.

Just the intro terrified me after having camped last summer in a Bigfoot area campground. At 3:30 a.m. I was awakened by a huge smack on a tree that was only about 70 ft from my tent. This was in a state park and my son was camped right next to me probably 40 ft to my right. After the first tree slam the second one happened 10 minutes later not far up from our camp then the next one was about 5 minutes later on down from our camp and then that was it for the night. They never heard it and I find that almost impossible to believe because it was so loud it scared me to death. I will never forget it.

Back in those days people explained in details because cameras were hard to come by. Sounds real to me. Excellent story. Thanks for the video.

Fear drives a person to do some amazing feats. I believe that he did run all that way. You said he was fit. It is believable. I didn't run 12 miles, but I ran from someone who wanted to shoot me, and I ran so hard and so fast that I split my jeans. I finally found a culvert and wedged myself in it until dark. Crazy times in the 70's as a teenage runaway.

Fear can be a great motivating factor to escape. I would sure try.

I don't know, endurance-wise there's racing events requiring running 100 miles in the Utah Mountains. The Wasatch Front 100 mile ultra-endurance run "100 miles of heaven and hell". My cousin's husband participates every year. Of course, it's on trails, so you're right about a literal non-stop off trail run being unlikely and dangerous.

Thousands of people have to have seen something right? They can't all be mistaken or crazy about what they're seeing..especially those familiar with wildlife or who live amongst or hunt wildlife. Great video, great story!

Albert Ostman didn’t tell his story until almost 60 some odd years after it happened so wasn’t for financial gain that’s for sure because it was shortly before his death!

Great account that I hadn't heard previously. I don't find it disturbing so much as amazing. He was more than lucky to have survived.

Additionally, he was someone who, probably spent much of his life in the wilderness, exercising and moving around, not sitting in front of a computer impugning others and imying that they are lying.

I disagree, people who lived off the land were a hell of alot tougher back then. There's a tribe in Mexico that run marathons barefoot in harsh terrain.

Being raised on the coast, I wouldn't doubt that he could find a way through the terrain. The distances may have been inaccurate but who knows?

Awesome story.
My 3 main thoughts as to the stories authenticity are detailed below for all to read.

1. The fact that the story comes from Peter Byrne, as told to him by the priest which actually nursed the man back to health, carries a LOT of weight. The priest was a first hand witness to the man that had the encounter. He saw the mans hair turn color etc.. He saw, and also took care of the actual wounds on Mr Harry, that any person would suffer from, after running for your life, unclothed and barefoot, through a heavy forest. I mean, a priest is usually someone you can trust, and the priest would certainly have no reason to lie anyway. Additionally, the priest witnessed the mans hair turn white, which says A LOT!! He would have also seen the cuts and abrasions to the mans body, and especially his feet.
My point is, the priest witnessed all these things first hand. The priest ALSO made it a point to say up front, that this man (Mr Harry) was an outstanding physical specimen of a person. Clearly he said that, in order to convey to us the fact that this man WAS capable of the rather outstanding physical feats he pulled off in order to get to safety. Again, the priest would have no reason to lie to Mr Byrne about the story.
The aecond part of my first point is that, ANYTHING Mr Byrne says in his research of Sasquatch, you can basically take to the bank. Mr Peter Byrne was of the first batch of serious Sasquatch researchers. (he's still alive, I believe he's in his 90's now!) Mr Peter Byrne is a highly intelligent, well educated man, and a professional big game hunter of old. He hunted all the exotic species of animals all over the world, as was popular to do way back in those days, such as many safaris to Africa, Yeti hunting in the Himalayas etc. etc. etc.. Any report Mr Byrne has written on the Sasquatch subject, carries his integrity, experience and honesty. So I have all confidence that Mr Peter Byrne told US the story, exactly as it was told to him by the priest.
Between the two of these men, I don't think you could ask for a better or safer chain of custody, for the information to travel through, so that we now have the details about this encounter all these years later. And this alone basically convinces me that the story is factual.

2. As we've been told, this encounter story was told by Michod Harry(spelling???) directly to the priest who cared for him upon his escape & return. Michod Harry was an indigenous person, native to the area. Consider this thought. The story took place in 1928. If he was 35 at the time. he was born late 1800's. (1890-1895 etc) He worked in the bush. In those days, bush workers, and even many city folk didn't have a lot of schooling. Many kids went to 5th of 6th grade and quit, then worked the family land, went and trapped etc. etc.. Additionally, Mr Harry may have had a poor grasp of the English language. His native language may have been something different. Perhaps the priest spoke both languages a bit, and translated some parts if the story. ??? No one ever claimed Mr Harry was a literary genius correct? My point? Perhaps the story was told by Mr Harry to the priest, and between them, there was a little needed translation. I would count on this happening as very likely.
So, in reading the story now, I would HIGHLY suggest that we don't let a single word, like "RAN", cause us to believe the story is a lie. If Mr Harry was trying to convey "he was running for his life for 12 miles to the canoe, that doesnt necessarily mean we must take a 100% literal stance on that word ran, and determine the story is fake because doing that is to hard to do. Some meaning may have been lost in the translation. If I said "I ran for my life for 12 miles to escape death", I wouldn't necessarily mean to be saying I ran nonstop!! Just that I ran whenever I could, making the best time I could. But when speaking different languages, things aren't always so easily broken down into critical words. And again, perhaps Me Harry didnt have an excellent grasp on ANY language. So he simply said I RAN.
Look at the entire story to make a determination of authenticity. To base any conclusion on one or two words used, in a multi lingual story, in a time when many trappers had NO schooling at all, is a big mistake.

3. The fact Mr Harry said he had left all his gear at his campsite, possibly adds credence to his story. After-all, IF he was never there at all, he ran the risk of people saying, "We went out there to get tour gear, and there's no trace you were ever there"... IF it was all a lie, the smarter this for Mr Harry to have said was that he DID go back and get his gear. And that's why no trace of his presence can be seen there in the location.

In closing: These are three glaring points in my opinion, that tend to lean to the story being authentic. Which, I believe it to be.
Of course, I have no proof, just as there isn't proof of it being fabricated.
It's an interesting tale to say the least, and I think it to be a true story.

Thanks for all your hard work Justin, MUCH appreciated.

I just listened to this same exact story from the Willstar channel. He Google maps the area beforehand and it's SUPER helpful in puzzling the story together in one's mind. Maybe you should incorporate some "Google maps" imagery into the beginning of your stories. Without that, your videos are still good👍

Depending on where you are on Vancouver Island, there are certain temperate areas where the forest floor and all logs are totally covered in a thick layer of moss. It is possible he could have ran out bare foot if this was the terrain he was dealing with. Haven't been in that area so I can't say for myself.
