How to Replace Push Pull Shower Handle with Moen 100224

I replaced the old push/pull shower handle with the Moen 100224 lever handle which is compatible with Moentrol valve.

So if i understand it right, this is only going to make the later handles adaptable to the standard old valve, but does not do anything to the plessure balancing that was not available in the old valves. Can you please confirm? thanks.

Would this not create too much of a torque when pulling on the long part of the handle? I would think you would need to be careful about holding the top part of the handle too to make sure it comes straight out... Thoughts on whether this would damage the valve in the long term?
