They have pushed back the date to 2025 now. So just keep listening for when the ETIAS system actually goes into effect.

The Visa Waiver (it is not a Visa) begins in 2025. The cost as of now is around 8 euros. The link is not available yet as the date isn't for another year. The date has changed multiple times so it may change again.

It feels like international travel is getting complicated. Thanks for helping make it clear!

We leave next week for Europe and my heart nearly stopped when I saw this video! I thought I messed up and didn't do something I needed to get done before we travel. Yikes! Great information and I definitely will be putting a reminder in calendar to get this done. 😀

I know this isn’t that complicated but it does make travel a bit more complicated. It’s a pity that the United States made the so-called visa waiver requirement for the European travelers. A passport should be enough for most countries.

Enjoyed your last few videos. My daughter lives in Freiburg, so it was interesting to see your take on it. Regarding the new Visa Waiver, I guess it's only fair that the Europeans have instituted a similar program to America's, although it is cheaper. Your viewers should beware of possible scamming sites, I know that there are a number of official-looking sites offering ESTA assistance that charge people more than they need to pay if they are on the official site.

Thanks for this video. I haven’t been to Europe since the Pandemic and wasn’t aware of this requirement at all.

Wow, very glad I saw this. Booked my Airbnb in Venezia in march 2023 and thought I just needed to get the plane booked and my friend and I would be good. Thanks for the info! Grazie!

To clarify this is NOT a visa. It's an electronic travel authorization ONLY for visa-free nationalities to the Schengen countries. A lot of media outlets have been mislabeling this as a visa but it is NOT a visa. It's a system like the ones in Australia, New Zealand, Canada (though US passports are exempt from it) and the US's own ESTA system and none are visas at all. The UK is going to implement something similar too in the next couple of years.

It's not a visa, and Europeans have had to do the same thing coming to the US on vacation for the past 20 years.

Thanks. I appreciate it. I didn’t know this was even going to be a thing. I just happened to be curious about European countries that required a visa. I didn’t think there were many besides Russia. Safe travels.
