I had every Jeff Beck album from the Yardbirds up to Flash my older sister saw the original Jeff Beck group in Detroit even spoke to them and then she turned me on to his music. He is the greatest in my book. I saw him in Detroit when some moron threw a firecracker on stage. He glared at the audience and stomped off stage. Boy was i pissed.

Live at ronnie scotts is an amazing concert, shows his musicianship and rapport with his band.

‘Self-sabotage’ was something which appeared to be in common between Beck and Clapton - who quit the Yardbirds (paving the way for Jeff) when they had their first hit single, then quit John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, broke up Cream - the first supergroup and then Blind Faith - the second. But musical integrity mattered far more to them than commercial success.

Anyway, Clapton said Beck was the best - and he would know … Jeff Beck’s influence on Gary Moore’s often overlooked fusion era is very apparent on Colosseum ll’s Electric Savage and Wardance albums - Gary was also one of the greatest and also rated Beck - widely considered ‘the guitarist’s guitarist’

Jeff Beck was a guitar genius, a true innovator; the Guv’nor. R.I.P.

A year plus later I’m watching this I’m new to your channel. I appreciate your sentiments. A lot of what you’re saying requires backfill. Like him or hate him, to be honest, Jeff Beck was similar to guitar as Howard Stern is/was to broadcasters. Bear with me. Howard Stern took all the risks, made all the mistakes, went the opposite direction of all others, and in the process revolutionized multiple media platforms. Through all the ridiculous attempts and wreckless behavior in the end a maturity and style that has impacted a generation and more. Jeff Beck was brilliant yet sloppy in the beginning and by playing with a pick he wasn’t the fastest, he wasn’t the coolest, he had no real commercial success yet there were flashes of brilliance. When he dropped the pick and when the internet blew up, it all changed. Even the old songs Beck had done came to life not only on YouTube etc., but his mastery of the guitar hit a level I truly believe nobody else has. All Beck’s mistakes and risk taking came together and so virtually everything he played was a masterpiece. That then caused us all to look back and reflect and appreciate all he had done. He cannot be copied. He can make you cry, cuss, smile, and shake your head all in a Jeff Beck minute. Live at Ronnie Scott’s woke up a generation to finally see up close and personal the art of true guitar playing. An iron fist in a velvet glove! And even emotion commotion showcasing his feel, touch, VOICE through his guitar. When Beck pulled out the white strat it was time to pack your bags. Just search on YouTube Brian May of Queen and his eulogy to Beck. Pretty much says it all.

Jeff was the greatest guitar player ever! I knew him personally, he was a great guy, it was Jeff who made me play guitar. I play a Jeff Beck signature fender Strat.

If you look at most album, he would have a track of just him playing his guitar. I manly say that, is because people have been known to say "How did he do that, that can't be played live."
I feel that he does that, because in many interviews he would say to Jeff "Yeah, that's a guy on America, Les Paul, that's all tricks, he can't play that way, that fast. That's while listening to How High the Moon." So he would want if possible put out a song"Where Were You " case in point. There was one time he played"Nessun Dorma " and he played it in his heart perfect. He virtually collapsed with emotions. So he mainly wanted to share the songs, and artists who he wanted us to hear. Imelda May is one that comes to mind. I would love to know, how many artists did you have a hard time listening to without getting emotional, because you recall that Jeff Beck was the one who shared with us the amazing vocalist that might not have been heard without Jeff, having them sing on a track. I hope I'm not the only one.

Beck was so idiosyncratic, it was and is very hard to sound like him.
