I know this is months later, but hopefully you see this! I have a few rebuttals to some of your remarks. I don't mean this mean, I just had a different interpretation of the book!

1: Language I believe the author said that Asuka can speak Japanese, just not well, which is supposed to be a metaphor for her disconnect from the society.

2: Asuka's name is implied to emphasize the sUe part of her name, and Suzie is an "American" name. The author is trying to show the other characters not fully accepting her as Japanese. The author doesn't explore why this is stated, so it's a little harder to pick up

3: As far as the spoiler section, I feel that the book is far more concerned with the emotions of the characters, so the logistics of the book are in the background. I think if this would be far more important, but I would argue that logistics aren't the point of the book, so they can be disregarded.

I'm glad you seemed to enjoy the book about as much as I have! I think it's stellar!
