Driving a Powerglide on the Street

This is the first drive of the Eaton-blown 363/Powerglide combination. Literally the second time I started the engine - so I took it easy (sorry, no burnouts or high-speed hijinks). This combination should go easy 9's. I can't believe how driveable it is...

Why would anybody say you couldn't drive a glide on the street? Millions of cars had them...??

Hi mate, I love your car. The mighty GM Powerglide made it to Australia behind many Aussie 6's and V8's too. Uncomplicated and strong. Legendary!

I had stock 67 Camaro 327 motor with two speed Powerglide and it run great, the mileage was pretty good too, ,
mind you in those days gas was so cheap no one cared about. It's cost lol

Man, I'm happy to see more people like me giving the PG's some space in the performance world. I must recognize I was one of the "the 2-speed automatic is for sure lame at launch" - guys. I'm impressed you would choose a PG as a trans for your Ford. Glad it turned out well.

Here I am securing a TH200-4R for a '70 Cutlass build because I feel like I need overdrive on the highway and here this man is doing the lord's work with only two forward speeds... At least it ain't a Dynaflow!

My 1967 Camaro has a Powerglide in it from the factory, and I really like it. It's a nice transmission. That's a nice build you've got there.

There’s a guy selling a 93 s10 2 speed powerglide in my neighborhood. Honestly the first time I’ve ever heard of it. Younger guy just starting to learn about cars. I appreciate the video and the explanation of everything going on.

People seem angry you put a PG in your Ford. But it's a badass setup you have, and hot rodding was born from putting whatever worked in a car to make it go, regardless of make. Honestly I'd love to see these guys try to do better. Thanks for sharing this, it makes me feel like my dream car is still possible to build someday.

My Chevy nova/corvairs/ light truck had the same the shift came at 35 mph. For the lighter corvairs/62 nova the truck came at about 32. The uncle sam called and the parent with the power of attorney. And all went. remember a good start then a mild "thump" reporting that high gear was there. And on i75 it was smooth. Tks fer show

My uncles 73 Nova has a powerglide, drove the car a couple weeks ago and it shifted a bit hard but drove like a dream. I think it was low on fluid or something since it’s been giving him a bit of trouble.

Great video. I really like the scrolling text so that I could just enjoy hearing the drive. Thanks for sharing.

Absolutely! Did I mention the transbrake's hooked up, too?

Great video, a glide, good choice. I also had an AOD, we were likely experiencing similar issues, shifting into 3rd way too soon. In the end I installed a transgo hi rev governor and was able to get it to shift at around 5, 500 rpms full throttle (Behind a vortech supercharged 347), still had the jerky feel in third so in the end I went nonlock-up. If you ever go back to an AOD non-lock up is the way to go, change to a single input shaft and you will have thousands of trouble free passes at the track. Lucky for me Lentech was pretty much down the road from where I lived. My AOD has an electric transbrake too, super fast release.

My dad got 2 cars with the 2 speed powerglide, a 65 Impala wagon and a 68 LeMans. Awesome tranny. You could be going 65 and drop it into passing gear. I had to have it rebuilt around 130, 000 miles, and the shop said it was in great shape, but for the bearing formed into an output shaft. After the rebuild, it was even better. Great tranny.
