Показать описание
Recorded in October 2021
The British Council #TheClimateConnection held a video competition for schools to turn waste into a waste bin.
The well-deserved winner is Start-Rite Schools, Nigeria with this fantastic project: Waste To Waste Bin.
"Sensitising our school community and the world at large on the need to cut down on carbon emission has been the driving force behind our climate action. The video ‘Waste to Waste Bin’ is one of our numerous projects on sustainable living. In the students’ presentation, they talk about some of those projects such as our beautiful planet, hat parade, and STEAM fest. As a school, we partner with a recycling company to manage our waste and even at that, the students discovered a problem which was the improper trashing of waste in classrooms. To solve this new problem, they decided to use the waste in their classrooms to create waste bins which would then be used to sort their waste properly. Thereafter, they gathered plastic bottles and used them to create two waste bins. Having created the waste bins, they used them to sort their waste in class. Finally, pupils shared what they learned during the project and how it impacted them. As part of their experiences, they learned that waste can be used to create useful things like waste bins, others learned that what we trash can be recycled. The bottom line of what they learned is that recycling can save the earth. Besides, the students who participated in this project are Zara, Loretta, Ugonna, Kamy, and Morola. Others are Favour, Collins, and Blanka."
