Mars Insight - Digging Into The Martian Interior

Mars Insight is landing today, hopefully in the same number of pieces the engineers designed!
Mars Insight is a lander rather than a rover because its two main experiments are supposed to stay in one place and will take months to collect the data on the Martian interior that planetologists have been unable to get from previous missions.

Wouldn't hammering the ground attract sandworms?

Is it still "reentry" when it didn't launch from Mars?

Yes! I'm loving all this Mars Insight talk on the internet! Can't wait for the onslaught of news about it in a few hours!

Update: After two years, it still hasn't dug the hole properly. The composition of martian soil in that area is really bad for drilling apparently. It keeps stalling.

Ahhh those little cube-sats are so cute. They're like little puppy satellites. I want to give them a scritch.

How could they pass up the *opportunity* to call them "Marco" and "Polo"?

Would be cool to have you come back and link these to the updates or add a comment to update how they performed.

Hoping for the best. Somebody should remind NASA to press f5 before hitting the atmosphere.

The antenna on the cube sats are something I want to know more about. Its a flat antenna acting as a parabolic antenna! It's insane.

Question: Are they going to send down the very seismically noisy mole before or after they start collecting data from the Areophone?

It will be a bit silly, but when there are missions like that I feel excited like a child on Christmas morning, especially now that everything went well ... they flew safely
