The latest report is she chose Walz because he had no ambition to be president himself and he will do the hard things that people with ambition shy away from while not bringing drama that would raise his star over hers. Shapiro most definitely has personal ambitions, so he wasn’t the best fit

Waltz won the hearts of Americans in less than a month, why wouldn't Harris want to add that magic to her team. Harris and Waltz both come across like they have a lot of fun together as they work for the American people. We love seeing our leaders joyful for the future of America!

Shapiro thought that she needed him so badly that he could ask for whatever he wants. By my reading of the New York times article, it seems that he wanted to co-president. He kept asking about what his powers and responsibilities would be. Walz came in with an attitude of wanting to help and support her and have her back.

Also, I think if you make a prediction and it's wrong, you should take a step back and assess what your presumptions are before boldly making yet another prediction.

Shapiro may have been a good choice, but to some people outside of Philly, choosing him could have been seen as transactional. Perhaps she was looking beyond the election. Walz's CV is unbeatable and his personality fits hers. He would be an excellent President should the need arise. A military background boots him to the top of my list. My husband was sure Shapiro was it but I was rooting for Walz. I see him as appealing to a broader range of Americans.

I would be interested to hear Michael comment on his apparently low expectations of Tim Walz AFTER hearing Walz speak to that massive crowd yesterday.
Full Disclosure: I'm biased. I live in Minnesota and proudly voted for Tim twice for governor. (I'm not in his former congressional district.) I also live only a few miles from Gwen Walz's home town of about 600 people. Tim's in-laws still live there and they are fine folks.

Being from York County PA I was all about Josh being the running mate. I thought he was the perfect pick. But...But.... when I heard Walz on State of The Union with Jake Tapper... that changed. He is more relatable to rural America than any candidate I can remember in my lifetime. I feel like he is my neighbor or a guy that I would run into at the grocery store. So once I heard him with Jake and then went out and watched a few interviews and podcasts that he was on I switched my preference from Josh to him. Being a little selfish I really wanted Shapiro to stay here and run PA as well, he is doing a fantastic job and has a bright future ahead of him in National politics.

I was pleased to hear that it was Walz! He has a kind of rugged gravitas that adds a lot of weight to the ticket. This guy is a heavyweight who punches hard and smiles while he does it. I think he will be a great support to Harris when the right try to trash her!

I don't know either of these dudes, but Shapiro comes off kinda slick and even fake (with that obvious Obama cadence). It's kind of an East Coast Newsome vibe. Kamala/Walz ticket is a cop and a teacher, that resonates with normies.

Josh Shapiro appeals to people on the coasts. Walz appeals to the heartland, decency, teachers, serving his country in the military, and he is immensely likeable. He is relatable. Why woudln't pennsylvanians vote for him? IN the meantime you get to keep your great governor. I don't think the heartland has as their #1 concern Israel.

Did Shapiro automatically disappear from Pennsylvania when he wasn’t picked? He can still campaign there and have probably the same effect as if he was on the ticket. I believe the VP connected better with Walz, it’s that simple. This whole analysis feels like sour grapes.

Josh S. has baggage...Harris has to defend her record. She does doesn't have time to defend Josh's record...Josh wants to be President..Harris doesn't have time to watch her back..Walz is LOVEABLE...🤗🤗🤗

Think she liked him because he's a positive person. Kamalas happy spirit has been inspiring and underrated as a political advantage. Her VP will add even more of that. Such a lovely contrast to Trump/Pence darkness.

Walz is a good pick. Shapiro and Kelly also would have been good pics. I heard that it took until this morning for her to decide. I’m guessing it came down to chemistry. The person she felt most comfortable governing with after meeting with all of them. It’s very personal. I trust she made the right pick for her.

I think there are two reasons she didn’t take Shapiro. He was too moderate, and she didn’t want to be upstaged by him. Gardening and a cigar, my son agrees with you. Enjoy your garden!

Maya Angelou has your answer and it has nothing to do with drmographics: “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Feeling not thinking is why people follow trump and it’s by offering a better feeling that you will peel more of them away.
