In 1919, William Randolph Hearst built his famous castle in the hills of San Simeon, California. With 56 bedrooms, 61 bathrooms and a 127-acre garden, it was the most opulent home in the country.

Toured in 1969. One "cottage" was built to the scale of his daughter. The scale was built to her changing scale as she grew. One "cottage' had Ferrari and Lamborghini type cars as the "family" was there for the weekend. The Guide said the family donated the Castle in return for a tax break on the rest of the property and retained the rights to one of the "cottages." This was before Patty rejected her white privilege - became a terrorist and had the influence of her family get her a slap on the wrist.
