Grid Instrument - Basic Usage Tutorial

How to use the GridInstrument iOS app.

GridInstrument is an app that turns your iPhone or iPad into a playable grid (much like the Ableton Push or scale-mode on a Launchpad Pro).

It has a simple sound generator built in, but where it really shines is in its ability to output MIDI data. It has Audiobus 3 support so that you can send MIDI to other apps. It also has MIDI out support so that you can send button presses to outboard hardware or even to a Network MIDI connection.

But the coolest feature of the app by far is that you can hook up your Ableton Launchpad controller directly to it (using the Apple Camera Connection Kit) and it will let you play your Launchpad like a musical instrument.

Just purchased and tried this and have to say it works pretty damn well. Most of the (scale mode) functionality of the LaunchPad Pro for a hundredth of the price. If you (the developer) can incorporate the different overlap modes of the LaunchPad Pro (where you choose the amount of overlapping notes per row) this will be a MUST-HAVE, PERFECT APP. As it stands now, still highly recommended. Awesome job. 👍🏻

Really love the app! Bought it! However I have a problem. I want to play and record tracks in Garageband with my Launchpad Mini through Grid Instrument. However Garageband receives two midi inputs at the same time. One directly from the Launchpad, and one from the Grid Instrument app. So whenever I play with the Launchpad, two different notes will play simultaneously. Is there a way around this? Or is there an alternative to Garageband, where I can play and record tracks using the Launchpad and Grid Instrument?
