Gundam Calibarn Takes Flight - Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury Season 2 Episode 10 Review

Suletta and her friends prepare for the final confrontation with her mother Pospera. And yes for the finale she is going to pilot a broomstick riding mobile suit the Gundam Calibarn. Given that the GUND Format is a man-machine interface that connects the pilot to the mobile suit, it would be even more surprising if Suletta wasn't able to take to the Gundam Caliban easily. Not to mention that the Caliban is still a Vanadis Corp. mobile suit whose foundation is the basis for the Lfrith and Aerial that Suletta grew up with all her life. Hell, the cockpits of said mobile suits don't look drastically different from each other, so they likely share similar control schemes anyway.

Also, pretty sure "pilot safety" is not one of the main features of the Calibarn since the lack of limiter means pilots are subject to the full effects of the Permet link and data storms, making it the worst Gundam to want to be in unless your name is Eri or Suletta.

She can pilot the Calibarn easily because:

[1] It's hinted at as one of the Vanadis line of Gundams, probably developed alongside the Lfrith
[2] All Gundams, being a product of Ochs x Vanadis, seem to share similar systems. Yay standardization
[3] The prologue short story suggests that Suletta has been piloting Aerial since she was very young. And the Aerial frame Gundam is probably just the uprated Lfrith.

We can also see in the ep after she lost to Guel that Suletta can pilot the Demi Trainers well.

So, we're assuming a lot but because of a common material base - Permet - we can probably assume a degree of standardization across all mecha in the WFM world - remember how easily Guel pilots the DoF mecha? - and specifically among the Gundams.

That, incidentally, were all designed by Elnora Samiya. Remember what Nadim said in the Prologue? Every single Gundam out there that was taken from Ochs x Vanadis data is technically also a child of Elnora/Prospera.

Maybe Suletta took a few minutes to familiarize herself with Calibarn's controls and OS. But it shouldn't be a stretch that she, a longtime mecha pilot of THE Gundam personally designed by THE maker of the line, and a pilot trainee in Asticassia, can fly one of the prototype Gundams.

And if you listen back to the Belmeria's explanations of Calibarn, . it isn't safe to fly. In fact, without any Permet "dampeners" - the limiters she mentions in the previous episode - it's probably going to fry a pilot faster than your "standard" WFM Gundam.

Good news with Calibarn is you can reach higher Permet Scores for longer on the same supply of Permet. I'm just paraphrasing from Belmeria's explanation in the scene just as Suletta is about to try and pass Permet 5.

Bad news is you die from the "Curse" faster. Because you have no "resistors" to protect you from the Data Storm of higher Permet Scores. Suletta can do it because she's Ericht Samiya's clone, although she wasn't able to get Eri's ability to totally synch with the Data Storm.

It's pretty poetic to see that this time it's Suletta who got it together while Miorrine was a complete mess. We have always seen her looking very prim and proper. So, seeing her that disheveled was shocking.

To be fair, Guel and Miorine were only married to secure her presidency and ensure his company doesn't go under (While of course keeping Suletta safe). Both of the main objectives are pretty much secured at this point. Since he really can't do anything about Miorine's state, he wanted to hand off the responsibility to Suletta officially via the school's dueling tradition. If he didn't duel her, he'll be stuck dealing with Miorine which is pretty much not going anywhere, might as well get it over with permanently. In a way this is his way of making it up to her for rigged duel they had where Suletta got her first loss.

Since Asticassia is a school for rich kids, the fact that the two know how to fence is pretty much in line with the dueling tradition the school has.

The activity of Gundam Caliburn was very powerful.
The growth of Suletta was also very impressive.
At the beginning of the story, she was also struggling with the task of making the mobile suit walk in class at school.
In episode 22, she showed us a similar level of combat as previous protagonists.

She is not immune to the permit score, Suletta has a higher tolerance to the permit score being a clone. Suletta was not effected before because Eri was taking all the feedback of the data storm.

The only thing I'm afraid of so far is for Schwarzette which looks so cool and has been hyped for a while now to have only been created for Lauda "I can't read the room" Jeturk. Such a waste would it be.
I hope somehow Guel is the one wh'oll end up using Schwarzette quickly in the next episode or it ruins the mobile suit and the finale for me, aside of that obvious rush of event we're having right now.

I see death flags targeted towards Suletta. Project zero looks like the death star to me.

Shouldn't be much different from Aerial since it was its porotype to her Original mobile suit.

I hope we get more because there are some things that they still haven't wrapped up yet so they could do it like the conflict between the earththens and the species still is a conflict that still has not been resolved and I don't think we'll because they're trying to fix the whole quiet zero mass and if they do, do a season. 3. It will most likely focus on the war between the earththens and species

Eri also can control gunbits from ep.0 that moment she was just only 5 years old. my opinion gund tech is like Arayashiki from IBO.

I found the lack of color to be a callback to Lfrith's design and giving G-Witch it's own "White Devil" Gundam. Also, I thought of Wing's fencing dual before the OG. Maybe due to the presence of a crazy woman with an army of unmanned mobile suits/dolls.
Why? Because saving his family's business and legacy is more important to Guel than some silly school title.

I looked at the duel between Guel and Suletta differently. It's been obvious since the beginning that Guel doesn't really care for Miorine. She has always been a means to an end. The same cannot be said for Suletta. I think he does love her. She made him into a better person. If you look at their interactions in that light, his choices make more sense.

For me, the duel was Guel trying to get Suletta to give up on Miorine for him. Remember the Dueling Oath? "The result itself is only the truth". Duel results show the truth of the matter. Suletta wins because she loves Miorine....and Guel realizes it. Which is why he admonishes himself as a fool after. He cannot win Suletta. Mio-Mio owns her heart.

Yes, this is my opinion. It could be that this is all bunk, and I would still appreciate the series if it was. But if this turns out to be right, it's exceedingly good writing.

For me, the first thing that came to mind after the Unicorn intro was from GBF. Mao's style of Gundams cuz Gundam X Maoh shoots the satellite cannon underhand while Crossbone Maoh thrusters. Honestly I think the Buster Broom Rifle has another configuration. Maybe similar to the Gundam X Divider or something. Look, we LITERALLY have a witch from Mercury. Nothing should be surprising. Lol

I feel like everyone in Earth house will probable be fine Prospera can go either way she might live or she might die Belmaria will most likely die.

Guel dueling Suletta, then surrendering the Holder position to her, is a death flag for Guel. If Guel just dies, there is no order of succession and it will never be clear who will be the Holder. With this duel, Suletta is now the undisputed Holder and Mio's husbando. And Guel can safely.... disppear...?

Btw Guel doesn't have to "die" per se. He can also go "missing" and take a new identity. Like Bob. Either case, the fact that they do this now instead of after the "final" battle tells a lot.

Suletta piloting Calibarn isn't surprising. The GUND format is a neural interface. You don't really need to "learn" to pilot it, you just think and the machine will do the work.

Lastly, I'm pretty sure there will be another season, where some of the characters will play an even bigger role - such as Shaddiq, Secelia, etc.
