Why No One Wants The RTX 4070

Nvidia launched the RTX 4070. It has good price to performance but NO ONE wants it. The RTX 4070 is not selling well at all. The RTX 4070 is sitting on store shelves collecting dust. Gamers are tired of Nvidia's anti consumer ways.

Are you happy with the 4070 or do you want more from Nvidia?

I bought this product and am perfectly happy with it. It doesnt really matter to me what costs 100 dollars less or more, I wanted a level of performance that can handle my modded games (which this can handily) without excessive power consumption and size.
I considered the 3080 since it hasnt been out really thaaat long and has such great reviews and that its 100 dollars more to me means they are still basically the same price.
But the 3080 and the 4070 perform about equal.
Some games one has a slight edge, some games the other. Basically no difference.
But the 3080 is much larger and consumes about double the power. The 4070 was a no brainer.
And a 4080 or 4090 would have outpaced my chip anyway (plus been bigger and consumed more power, not to mention crazy prices.).

If they had given the 4070 16GB it would have sold like hot cakes… same goes for the 3070, if that had 12GB that would have been probably the best selling card ever.

Thanks to Nvidia and their prices on the 40 series, I went out this past week and bought a Radeon 6750 XT now that they are heavily discounted. My first new Radeon card since my 9800 Pro years ago. Very happy with it so far. Nvidia are increasing prices well beyond the rate of inflation. I'm glad that gamers are starting to say no to that. I'm also cheering for Intel's ARC cards to do well. Competition is so important.

The 4070 fits in my case, I don't need a new power supply, I can keep my 2nd GPU in my case. No regrets. Runs great, upgraded from a 2080 Super

Recently upgraded from a 1660 super to a 4070 and im loving it so far. The power consumption was a great benefit as I didn't need to upgrade my PSU. Yeah I agree it's not the best value, as 500 dollars would be a great price, but it is a nice upgrade from an older gen card. Also I play a lot of cyberpunk and witcher 3 so dlss 3 is something I actually use and it's been impressive.

Nvidia tried to sell us a 4060 with a 4070 sticker on it for $600. They got what they deserved

main selling point for me is the 200w tdp.

nvidia have decided to reduce gpu production rather than price😐

the 4070 will actually be the best (most longlived) card in their 40 series lineup, and here's why I think so:
the cards that cost more than a grand will be outperformed by midrange 50 series cards in 2 years and you never feel like you got your money's worth from that point on (even now you dont but thats personal opinion).
the 4060ti and 4060 will be cheaper than the 4070, but will both suffer from 8GB vram, like the midrange 30 series cards already do, so are basically midrange 30 series cards with a price cut and frame generation, nothing more.
the 4070ti is an 800 dollar card (real MSRP in europe is often closer to 900) which definitely puts it into the high end segment. And it still only has 12GB.
so the 4070 really is the cheapest 12GB, 600 dollar nvidia card you can buy that also has frame generation and better RTX than amd and wont run into issues the 3060ti, 3070 and 3070ti already are experiencing with unoptimized new releases.
and it performs as good as the 3080 which barely ever dropped below 800 bucks new unless you went hunting for offers and is out of production so it wont ever get much lower.
so the 4070 will age like fine wine. and if it doesnt, what does that tell us about the rest of the lineup?

Also, the current price for a new 6800 xt is $540, which makes the cost per frame even better than a 4070 ($600)

I can't understand why every review I see brushes over the TDP (energy efficiency, in other words, for the non-tech savy) of the 4060 and 4070.
I'm not an nvidia advocate by any means, and I was this close to buying a 7800XT instead of the 4070, were it not for DLSS, which I prefer over FSR, the TDP difference, and the fact that I got mine at a sizeable discount on top of it.
A huge part of the market has people living in countries where electricity prices ARE a problem, such as Europe and some countries in Asia. I'm able to undervolt my 4070 with no performance loss at around 150-160W in cyberpunk at 1440p max settings, including RT and DLSS. I can, in fact, make it go down to ~130W if I simply put DLSS on balanced instead of quality and decrease sharpening from 1 to 0.5 - which makes no difference to me. All this saves me from having to wonder, every month, if I have a crypto mining rig that I'm not aware of in my apartment.
I'm super happy with it, too. No regrets. Haven't found a game where the 4070 leaves me disappointed at 1440p. The only bittersweet aspect of it is the 12GB VRAM, but even regarding that, I have yet to find a game where that's an issue, and when that day comes with a game like GTA 6, I have absolutely no issues downgrading to 1080p if I get to keep the frames and quality high, since I had my entire adolescent + young adult years on that res and at 60hz no less, with either shitty graphics or 50-60 fps most of the time.

Is it absurd that the card isn't a massive upgrade in terms of performance from the 30 series? Yes, but like I said, to a large part of the market, the energy efficiency is important, and they excel at it, whether we like it or not. And yes, I'd obviously like the cards to be cheaper if the only improvements are in the energy efficiency and software department, but we all know it's not going to happen because of the miners and increasing AI demand.
Were it not for the discount (got it for 500€ instead of 650-700 - current prices), I'd have probably ended up buying a 7800XT (for around 600-650€) and just dealt with FSR and the extra mark up on my electricity bill, but the 4070 is still worth the money for the performance and has a place in the market if you don't live in a country where electricity is apparently free. People like doing benchmarks, stick it on a graph, compare prices based on it, make a review from it without actually using one outside of benchmarking and everyone jumps on the bandwagon that the card sucks.
I'm of the opinion that no GPU is worth more than 500€ for gaming unless you're doing some hardcore 4k stuff. That includes paying 650€ for a 4070 or a 7800XT, but given our choice from a restricted market, the 4070 performs rather well for the 650€ price tag, and pays itself off overtime, regardless of what people say. Having paid 500 for it, I honestly couldn't be happier with it, and I don't see myself changing GPU's until 12GB VRAM isn't enough to keep up with 1080p at max settings, which is probably in a long time.

It's a real shame that Nvidia keeps on preventing graphical progress by offering low VRAM especially for the mainstream.

This is an RTX 4060 12gb that should be selling for 350$ and they called it a 4070 and tried to sell it for 650$. Gee I wonder why no one wants to buy this piece of dogsheet?

It is important to remember that the inflation of the last three years has made $600 the new $450 Would you pay $450 2019 for a 4070? You'd not only pay that but also let it eat your cat and put its feet on the coffee table.

Nice video, totally agree with you, nice points. I hope both AMD and nVidia get the message that Gamers are not Miners and they won't get away with absurd prices this time. Stick to your guns, fellow gamers. :)

i fully agree with everything. if it was 500$ and 16GB vram, it'd have been the best value card in years
