How To TAP On Bass Or Guitar - 3 Easy Tips #shorts

1. Using a bright sound helps so much with tapping, especially on bass. Because you're often playing many notes simultaneously, it can quickly get muddy if you don't use a bright tone. Best way to achieve this is with new strings but using the knobs on your instrument/amp to boost the highs and cut the lows a little can also help.

2. Having a low action is essential. It's almost impossible to tap well with your strings an inch above the fretboard because it takes so much more force to push them down.

3. I've found that curving my fingers gives me much more control. Everyone's hands are different and some of you might prefer keeping your fingers straight, but the vast majority of the time I've noticed people have more control when they're curved.

I have to be honest, bro you have reached that pinnacle level of talent thats right up there with the 3 greatest bassist ever: Stanley Clark, Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller! And because of your tapping speed and your crafty arrangements I would put you slightly ahead Miller and Clarke...and bro Stanley Clarke is forever my greatest inspiration, so for me to waver on him for you is as serious as my heart being ripped out of chest! Man you are absolutely awesome!!!!

For people asking, the fast tapping part that was displayed is from Davie's video that's called "Did He Just Play an IMPOSSIBLE Bassline??", part is at 9:40

That really is the trade-off for being able to tap so effectively: the necessarily low action and string tension doesn't lend itself to music requiring the bass player to occupy its traditional role in the ensemble.

What's cool is that I'm a violin and viola player, and one of the techniques that we are taught when we just begin to learn is to keep our fingers curved. Locking your fingers add time to the speed of your fingers since you have to take time to bend them before you can use them. Also, keeping your fingers close to the fretboard would probably be very helpful as well. I'm not a bass player, but the finger action is similar between a bowed instrument and a strummed/tapped instrument.

He’s absolutely killing it on the bass ! Imagine lessons from him . I’m a guitar player who dabbles in bass . If there’s an unsung bass hero it’s gotta be him !

Got your book, Grant's too.
Everyone who is new to tapping on the bass should have it.
I am making some real progress.
The exercises seem overly simple at first but they really are perfect for building technique.
Be strict, play them a lot and you will see fast returns!
I can pretty much weave it into anything I choose now.

Cheers!
