Breakup of Yugoslavia: bloody wars, NATO intervention

Yugoslavia used to be one of many socialist republics formed at the end of World War II. This one resembled the USSR the most due to its ethnic diversity. Serbs, Croats, Slovenes, Bosniaks, Albanians and Macedonians had tried to co-exist under the "slavs are brothers" narrative. However, by the 90s it had faded away completely. That's how Breakup of Yugoslavia started.

I've left a long comment tagging all mistakes and wrong information presented in this video, but it was deleted by owner so I will just leave a message that if you want to be informed around breakup of Yugoslavia - this is absolutely not a place to do so.

I know a few Croatians here in Holland who’s parents lived in Yugoslavia when Tito was in power during the 1970s. They all said they were happy and experienced a free and meaningful life. Also many people from the West would holiday there

Anyone who has followed Barbara Unković’s work down the years will immediately realise that this is the book that she was always going to write. Her work over the years has shown a keen awareness of the misery caused by war by focusing on the conflict in the former Yugoslavia, tracing its horrendous impact on those who endured it. Eaten by the Night draws all those threads together into a truly compelling read. Ambitious in its intent, the book spans the years by showing how war can have long-lasting effects on people and colour the way families view the world. Laced with acute character observation, powerful sense of place and much tension and jeopardy, the novel grabs the reader from the start and does not let go until the last word has been read. At a time when Europe is tainted by the madness of the war in Ukraine, it’s a book that everyone should read.

the omission of US involvement and the disastrous Dayton agreement is quite shocking for a history channel.

Your video is accurate on all points mentioned. Simple, truthful and to the point. Those denying this are living in a warped reality reserved for the brain washed and ignorant. Good job & keep up the great work.

Although not everything is perfect in this video that is due to the short length of the video. Forget what most of these comments say about “anti-Serb propaganda” the fact of the matter is the Serbians committed the most atrocities against the other nations and they are the main actors to blame for the break down of the nation. As for the portion on Albania, it doesn’t have much to do with what happened in Kosovo. The main reason for that was the constant massacres that occurred by the hand of the Serb government in Kosovo. That along with the loss of autonomy for Kosovo played a large part as well for the breakaway.

Bunch of poorly made propaganda. Whoever learns history from propaganda pieces like this is bound to be used as a tool in future wars.

Very simplified, quite Anti-Serbian propaganda. There was no real war in Slovenia, JNA (Yugoslav People's Army) was there before the ''war'' yet soldiers were not given ammunition. gangs of organized Slovenians, supported by Slovenian Ministry of Internal (each republic had its own police called at that time ''Milicija'' (Militia) ) attacked and killed unarmed soldiers of JNA, therefore, committed numerous crime (and Western media always turned a blind eye to that, simply Germany, AustrIa, USA, UK, all in its own way, supported Slovenia) Thats the first big mistake in video. I will not comment further, but it is all full of hidden or open anti-Serbian propaganda. JNA was not ''predominantly Serbian'' ! All nations were represented, and Croats and other non-Serbs had great deal in treason of JNA, Slovenes and Croats abandoned JNA, stealing plans and all kinds of military good and equipment. Whole thing was illegal and against current international laws. NATO bombed Yugoslavia in 1999. without consent of UN, which was a war crime, killing thousands of civilians, , , . etc etc.... So next time you need to study much more if you want people to see real truth and not just transparent propaganda of the lowest kind.
