How to Throw MID RANGE - Disc Golf

In my opinion, the most under-appreciated mold in disc golf is the mid range. Usually, disc golfers either LOVE mid ranges and bag 5 of them, or don't throw any at all. Well, in this video, I'm going to show you the nuances of how to throw mid range - disc golf, and WHY it is one of the best, most consistent shots in your bag.

(And it goes pretty far as well 😉)

This is the dankest video I’ve ever watched. Thinking about spinning the back of the disc around in front of the pinch point just changed my game. Literally went out and instantly started threading gaps at different angles using this guide.

Been struggling with my release for a long time. Finished work, watched this over dinner then went straight out and put your advice into action with my mako3 and buzzz and dude, the difference is amazing. Thanks Ben, each one of your videos I've watched have made a noticeable difference to the efficency of my practice and the quality of my throws.
Once again thanks a million, you have a great way of making things make sense in a way that the other experienced players on the course haven't been able to get me to understand. Looking forward to more videos!

I currently throw my mids 250-280. My drivers don’t go much farther. Have played a local course 5 speed or less and only added 3 strokes to my normal score. Love the m4 and m3 from prodigy. I’ve only been playing for a year and extremely happy to have found your channel. Great work!

Sick video! Throwing the back end of the disc at the target is an interesting concept. I feel like that's why I tend to "griplock" because I am thinking about the front end to the target. I will have to try this on my next round. Midranges are my favorite discs in my bag beside my sidewinder. Gator3, Buzzz, Buzzz SS, Meteor are my go-tos!

Been playing for 5 weeks...Started out hating my Mid-ranges and putters...After gaining more throw speed, I can't control my (four) Destroyers, So I re-tried my Mids and Putters and now LOVE them!

Ben! That idea of "spinning the back of the disc towards the target" is genius!

Just aced a 280’ hole today with a skull boy hex (very similar to a buzz), very strait predictable flight with a touch of fade. Love that disc

I'm new and only 3 weeks in. I'm not fast enough to throw anything higher than a 7. My main plays are a fairway driver, to a mid, then I worry about my approaching. This makes the most sense and has been what has allowed me to par more often than not. Mids are the most versatile discs, specifically due to their low speed and ability to hold angles during those slow speeds. I can't imagine how mundane and limited a game would be not having the ability to shape my shots on a wooded course.

Relearning my disc after playing for 2 years and plateauing at 200' for all my disc. Putters are golden now mids are my things and focus on mids awhile folks.

I think you're generally right, but I'll critique your physics.
MR and DVR discs get their spin during the same duration of the release. Since the MR's rim is smaller, the distance from your pinchpoint to the center of mass is greater, resulting in a greater distance it needs to rotate around the pinchpoint in the same time as the drv. Because the MR needs to rotate further, in the same time, the disc needs to be rotating faster, causing more spin once you release.

Its not the radius from the pinchpoint to the edge of the disc that matters as much as the pinchpoint to the center of mass.

I have to agree, nothing more satisfying than hitting a stable Mid-Range exactly the way you want it, see it glide forever and have it spin out on the ground.
I started throwing two months ago and the Mako3 became my absolute go to disc (been playing one-disc-rounds with it and I have not lost any strokes)

Mids and upshots are the best part of my game actually. I rely on mids or putters 85% of my game. More control, more accurate. Great breakdown!

This makes perfect sense. Now, trying to apply this to my discs

I just came back from a field session where I tried this. WHAT!?!? Not only are my Roc3s more comfortable with a pinch/modified fan grip, but I gained distance and accuracy. Felt weird but that’ll just take some getting use to. Crazy!
