People have always kept a close eye on the time. First, we looked to the heavenly bodies, and now we look at digital displays. While our methods of timekeeping have gotten more sophisticated, the question remains: What exactly is time?

In this episode of Wondrium Perspectives, four experts share how our concept of time has changed since Newton, and how looking into our past can help define the nature of our universe.

Clips in this video are from the following series on Wondrium:

Great Heroes and Discoveries of Astronomy, presented by Emily Levesque

The Theory of Everything: The Quest to Explain All Reality, presented by Don Lincoln

What Einstein Got Wrong, presented by Dan Hooper

The Great Questions of Philosophy and Physics, presented by Steven Gimbel

In a way we are time travelers now . For many it won't be their first life, and are starting to awaken to this, and just how connected we all are .
Physically, time travel is now, as time in my experience is fluid enough for messages to be received from instant out to 15 years or more .
Connect with the planet, to know what it knows, this is also connected with solar and Galactic knowledge, with this comes knowledge of the universe - asking for answers and being ready for the answers when they happen .

Whatever time is, there is not enough of it!

Time is merely an instrument used to measure Change. There is only one thing that is constant in life and that is Change.

Time is the universe's way. Of stopping everything happening at once

17:10 so we all travel at the speed of light through spacetime since the vector length is constant under rotation in the upper half-plane. If our movement through spacetime is zero in our reference frame, then we travel through the time dimension at the speed of light.

Anyone else said "baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me, no more" after reading video title "what is time" 😝

Good video, as many out there, I'm fascinated with the universe and its secrets.

There is no time like present! Especially 🎄 Christmas time!! It's always a surprise!!!

The fact that we and the material universe exist shows we do not know or understand time, for if we did it would cease to exist and this reality would no longer be. In order to understand and concur time the being, the spirit must be rehabilitated. For matter, energy, space, and "Time" are a trap that binds and holds the true essence of you to what we call reality.

I was told as a kid that "Time is money" but really it's just something we use to measure our lives

Time is a man made construct. Universally speaking, there is no beginning and there is no end.

I remember clearly when this dawned on me, it was 2nd year physics and the professor was explaining a vector problem in Max's theory. I said out loud, "it doesn't matter the path you take the result will always be the same if you just drew a straight line between a and b". Everyone looked at me and I was a bit embarrassed for the disruption. The professor looked at the problem and then to me and said, " you and Fermi". Of course I know he knew this now, it just wasn't on his mind atm as he was showing us how to work a problem. Of course I didn't know/realize the applicability to spacetime at the time... that didn't occur until I read Michio Kaku's book Hyperspace.

Good stuff Everyone, sry for the nostalgic moment from me... seems to happen when you get old.

I don't think we're able to change our timeline if we travel back in time. My theory is that if we go back in time and change something, then we create a new timeline and can't go back to our timeline.

Time can maybe be explained as in the video in the youtube video "Does God exist? String Theory says, "Yes!" But...!?"

in that thing at 6:30 he clearly shows that time is the same as you walk away from the clock, it just takes more time for the light to get to you, so the clock "appears" to slow as you walk away. if you turn and go to the clock it will "appear" to speed up as you are going into the light as it is going to you as you approach the clock, time passes at the same rate in all frames, it's all relative, isn't it?

@10:10, observation: we all travel at the speed of light - either in the time direction or in a combination of time and space dimensions. Or to word it in a different way - an observer's Time direction is the direction in which they travel through 4D space. Then we have CPT symmetries, telling us things like a positron being an electron travelling backwards in time - so there's no restriction which direction in 4D *can* be a time direction for some observer.
If there's no restriction in the direction of time, then why is everything (local) sharing a direction? Simply because we have no good way to change its direction - we need something already travelling in the opposite direction or the momentum of interacting particles would still not reverse its direction. Like shooting bullets in the back of a train - we *could* accelerate the train, but never make it go backwards.
But what conditions could we imagine where we have particles (... information, energy) moving in all possible 4D directions? How about the moment before the "big bang" - if energy was so concentrated and chaotic, as to travel in any direction, there would be no "average" direction - no arrow of time. To an observer in our position that may look strikingly similar to 10e-33s passing, just due to the lack of time direction, yet energy would still be travelling by the speed of light.
As energy moves about in 4D from regions of high density to low density an average direction would form with the same average direction and it would not be possible to go backwards, only to further keep dissipating, interacting less and less, with the rate of interactions between different forms of energy approaching zero.

Analytics of time should be started from creating very detailed definition of time. General information a "time" it is like taking together about all different types of time (biological, physical, astronomical, chemical ... together ) and trying to come up with the same properties. When some of them may be the same, same of others may not. The same refers to method of measuring time. They must be the same in all measurements. As far scientists do not do good job with a "time".

I feel that one reason that we can't travel back in time is because to do so we would need to travel though negative space, which is there not such thing.

I'm not sure what time is. But I feel like entropy is the price we pay for having time.
