Elvis's backup singers cried after this performance, too. One of them said "I've never heard him sing like that before. He means every word."

One of the very best performances ever done. This is so very special. If you're breathing, this will move you deeply.

No dancers, no video screens, no auto tune, no lip pure talent

Elvis was a southern boy, grew up poor as hell in a shack. Went to church with black folk. Sang of civil rights and equality until he kicked. Homie was the real deal.

No auto-tune, out of breath at the end and words with meaning; I miss real music.

This song should be played on every radio station in the country. It’s so relevant today as it was when Elvis recorded it. RIP Elvis.

He said “Thank you” at the end like we blessed him or something. Nah Elvis you blessed us, thank you!

Elvis picked this songs after MLK Jr’s assassination. He was so distraught and he picked it because it had parts of MLK’s “I have a dream” speech in it. His manager wanted him to sing a hokey song and Elvis insisted on singing this song as the closing song. His passion & emotion makes this his best performance ever ♥️

I think this is his greatest performance. The pain in all of our hearts and souls after the terrible senseless losses of Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert Kennedy...what a bleak time. Elvis channeled our despair and our hope. Still brings tears. 50 years on. Not enough has changed.

The assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Memphis, as well as that of U.S. Senator Robert Kennedy, affected Elvis Presley deeply. These feelings led Elvis to give one of the most passionate performances of his career. The song contains direct quotes from MLK and was recorded just 17 days after Kennedy's assassination.

Fun fact: Elvis never won a grammy for Rock and Roll. He won for Gospel. That was back when the grammys meant something.

It's a known fact that Elvis wasn't sure if people would remember him after his death, my God if he only knew, how can you forget such a talent and now to see a younger generation enjoying this incredible Talent brings me Joy

Elvis knew in 1968 The world needed to be in a better place.
Oh My Goodness. Elvis was amazing... his voice transcends all genres. I'm Blessed to know 90% of his music through my Mom. but truly any one that listens to his voice and his messages through his voice... you will be transported to another realm.. not what we live in now.. but truly what Elvis sang about for our future. He Truly had a DREAM.

Thank you for showing such respect for Elvis. He was raised dirt poor, always remembered where he came from, , remained humble and did not believe in segregation. You have earned my respect.

A quote from Muhammad Ali "48. Muhammad Ali
Elvis was my close personal friend. He came to my Deer Lake training camp about two years before he died. He told us he didn't want nobody to bother us. He wanted peace and quiet and I gave him a cabin in my camp and nobody even knew it. When the cameras started watching me train, he was up on the hill sleeping in the cabin. Elvis had a robe made for me. I don't admire nobody, but Elvis Presley was the sweetest, most humble and nicest man you'd want to know"
