Msaki Bio
Msaki (born Asanda Lusaseni Mvana) is a South African singer-songwriter, composer, and musician. She was born on March 2, 1983, in East London, South Africa.
Msaki grew up in East London, where she attended Selborne College, a boys' school that allowed girls to attend for their final two years. She later studied law at Rhodes University in Grahamstown, South Africa.
After completing her studies, Msaki moved to Johannesburg to pursue a career in music. She began performing in small venues and festivals around the city, eventually attracting the attention of prominent musicians and producers in the South African music industry.
In 2016, Msaki released her debut album, "Zaneliza: How the Water Moves," which received critical acclaim and helped establish her as one of South Africa's most promising young artists. Her music combines elements of folk, soul, and jazz with socially conscious lyrics that address issues such as gender inequality, poverty, and political corruption.
Msaki has collaborated with a wide range of artists and producers, including Black Coffee, Tresor, Mobi Dixon, and Sun-El Musician. She has also performed at major festivals and events around the world, including the Cape Town International Jazz Festival and the Afropunk Festival in New York City.
In addition to her music career, Msaki is also a visual artist and writer. She has published a collection of poetry titled "The One Who Sings Prayers" and has worked as a music educator and mentor for young artists in South Africa.
